Sudden loud sounds or shaking — like fireworks, thunderstorms, or even earthquakes — can be frightening for pets. Their hearing and sensitivity to vibrations make these experiences overwhelming.

If your pet seemed scared after the recent earthquake, here’s how you can help:
✅ Stay calm. Pets take cues from you. Speak softly and move slowly.
✅ Create a safe space. A quiet corner, crate, or room with familiar bedding can help them feel secure.
✅ Use background noise. Soft music or white noise can reduce outside sounds and vibrations.
✅ Avoid over-reassuring. Comfort them gently but don’t reinforce fearful behavior.
✅ Distract with play or treats once they start to relax.
✅ Consult your vet if your pet’s anxiety persists — some animals may benefit from calming aids or behavioral support.

At VETNC Vets, we understand how stress affects your pet’s wellbeing. If your dog or cat is showing signs of ongoing anxiety, we’re here to help you find the best way to keep them calm and happy.

Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome (CDS) in Senior Dogs

Just like humans, our dogs can experience age-related changes in their brains. Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome (CDS) is often compared to dementia — it can cause disorientation, changes in sleep patterns, confusion, and even altered interactions with family members.

If your senior dog seems “lost” in familiar places, stares into space, forgets routines, or has disrupted sleep, these may be early signs of CDS.

While there’s no cure, early diagnosis and supportive care — including diet adjustments, supplements, medication, and environmental enrichment — can make a real difference in your pet’s quality of life.

At VETNC Vets, we’re here to help your loyal friend age comfortably and happily.

Cyprus has one of the highest stray cat populations in Europe, and while we all love feeding the friendly faces that show up in our yards, food alone isn’t enough. Without neutering, one pair of cats can lead to dozens of kittens within a year — most of which won’t survive or will struggle on the streets.

Neutering isn’t just about preventing overpopulation. It helps cats live longer, healthier, calmer lives. It reduces fighting, spraying, roaming, and the spread of disease.

So if you care for outdoor cats — even if they’re not “yours” — you can make a real difference by arranging to have them neutered. It’s a small act of kindness that creates a massive ripple effect.

Hair shedding is natural—but when it looks like your pet’s trying to clone itself, it’s time for a little coat care. Here are some vet-approved tips to keep that mane shiny, strong, and (mostly) attached to your pet.

🐾 Nutrition matters. A balanced diet rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids supports healthy skin and hair. Think of it as moisturiser from the inside out.
🦴 Add protein power. Hair is made of keratin—a protein. Quality food with lean protein sources strengthens each strand.
🧴 Brush often. Regular brushing removes loose hairs, spreads natural oils, and keeps the coat from matting. Bonus: it’s free therapy for both of you.
🚿 Don’t overbathe. Too many baths strip natural oils, making fur dry and weak. Use vet-recommended shampoos and keep it moderate.
💊 Check for underlying issues. Excessive shedding can signal allergies, stress, parasites, or hormonal imbalances.

A vet check ensures it’s not something deeper.

✨ Healthy skin = healthy coat. And healthy coat = less hair decorating your sofa.
