You’ve probably seen him online: lounging like a Greek god by the sea in Chania, soaking up the sun, and ruling the streets with his majestic fluff.
Chonkus Maximus has become a viral legend — and we totally get why. He’s charming, photogenic, and unapologetically chonky.
But let’s talk honestly... 👇

❗Being overweight isn't just cute – it can be dangerous.
While round kitties might make us smile, excess weight puts serious strain on a cat’s:
⚠️ Joints (especially as they age)
⚠️ Heart and lungs
⚠️ Risk of diabetes and liver disease
⚠️ Overall mobility and quality of life

✅ What to do if your cat is overweight:
🩺 Schedule a weight and health assessment with your vet
🥗 Discuss a vet-approved diet — not just less food, but the right food
🎾 Increase daily playtime with interactive toys
📏 Track progress gradually — healthy weight loss takes time!

📅 Book a wellness check today — we're here to help with gentle, effective feline weight management.

Shedding is a normal part of life for snakes and geckos — but when it goes wrong, it can signal health issues. 👀

✅ Healthy Shedding:
Comes off in large pieces (or full skin in snakes)
Clear eyes and vibrant colors after
Regular behavior and appetite

⚠️ Problematic Shedding (Dysecdysis):
Retained eye caps
Bits of old skin stuck on toes or tail
Dull, dry, flaky patches
Loss of appetite or hiding more than usual

💡 Common causes? Low humidity, poor nutrition, or underlying health problems.
🦎 If your reptile isn't shedding properly, we can help. Book a check-up today!

Yes — especially social species like parrots, budgies, and cockatiels.
Birds are flock animals and need daily interaction to stay happy and healthy.

❗Lonely birds may pluck feathers, scream excessively, or act withdrawn.
✅ Spend time with them, offer toys, or consider a second bird (with proper introduction).

Need advice on your bird’s behavior? We’re here to help!

Purring is one of the most misunderstood cat behaviors.

While it often means your cat is feeling content and cozy, it can also be a self-soothing response when they’re:
😿 In pain
😰 Anxious or stressed
🤒 Feeling unwell

So if your kitty is purring but also seems withdrawn, hiding more than usual, or not eating, it’s time to take a closer look. 🧐

When in doubt, bring them in for a check-up — we’re here to help.

Reptiles like turtles, iguanas, and bearded dragons need more than just greens to stay healthy. 🥬🚫

Here are some of the most common feeding mistakes we see at the clinic:
❌ 1. Feeding the wrong greens
Not all leafy vegetables are safe! Lettuce, for example, has little nutritional value. Go for darker greens like dandelion, collard, and mustard greens.

❌ 2. Forgetting calcium & vitamin supplements
Without proper supplementation, reptiles are at risk of Metabolic Bone Disease, especially if they’re not getting enough UVB light.

❌ 3. Feeding too much fruit
Fruits can be high in sugar and harmful in excess. 🍓🍌

❌ 4. Not tailoring the diet to the species
Turtles, iguanas, and beardies all have different nutritional needs. For example:
Iguanas are strict herbivores 🌿
Bearded dragons need a mix of insects and greens 🦗
Aquatic turtles benefit from pellets, leafy greens, and the occasional protein

Don't let their size fool you—ticks can carry dangerous diseases for your dog, including Ehrlichiosis, Babesiosis, and even tick-borne paralysis.

In Cyprus, especially during the warmer months, ticks are a common threat to pets that spend time outdoors.

What to watch for:
✔️ Lumps or bumps when stroking your dog
✔️ Lethargy, loss of appetite, or fever
✔️ Redness or irritation at the bite site

At VETNC Vets, we can help you choose the right protection plan for your pet and offer safe tick removal if needed.

Your Dog’s Teeth Matter More Than You Think
Just like us, dogs need proper dental care to stay healthy — and not just for fresh breath!

🦷 Dental disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs, and it often goes unnoticed until it causes pain, tooth loss, or even affects the heart and kidneys.
Here’s what to watch out for:
✔️ Bad breath
✔️ Yellow or brown buildup on teeth (tartar)
✔️ Red or bleeding gums
✔️ Difficulty chewing or loss of appetite
✔️ Pawing at the mouth or unusual drooling

📆 Schedule routine check-ups and professional cleanings

A trip to the beach with your dog can be an exciting adventure—but sometimes, curiosity gets the better of our four-legged friends!

🐶 If your dog ingests sand—especially in large amounts—it can lead to serious health issues, such as:
🔸 Gastrointestinal discomfort: Sand can irritate your dog’s digestive system, causing vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. These symptoms can quickly lead to dehydration if not treated promptly.
🔸 Intestinal blockage: The most serious risk. Sand can accumulate in the intestines, creating a life-threatening obstruction that prevents food and fluids from passing. This requires urgent veterinary attention.

🦴 Enjoy the beach, but keep a close eye on your pup—and if you notice any worrying symptoms, don’t wait. Bring them to VETNC Vets right away. We're here to help them bounce back safely. 🌊🐕
