Summer has finally arrived on the farm.
The lilacs and ornamental trees are about a week behind where they were last year, but they’re putting on a beautiful show now. The smell of lilacs drifting across the yard is one of the best parts of this time of year.
We always let the dandelions bloom at least once before mowing. The bees and other pollinators need all the help they can get after a long Manitoba winter, and it’s a simple way to support them.
With roughly five acres of yard around the farmyard, the mowing has officially begun. It’s a job we actually enjoy - finding enough time between work, farming, trucking, and family is usually the bigger challenge.
Tonight’s clouds are rolling in across the fields, reminding us that weather is never far from the conversation on a farm.
For now, we’re enjoying the blooms, the green grass, and another Manitoba summer finally getting underway.
