Last but not least is Astrid with a pupdate from New Brunswick!

Astrid's been adjusting extremely well and she's learning tons of different prompts like recall, nose target, sit, out and return by name. I'm super impressed with how quickly she's learning and she's always eager to play and learn 😊

In terms of behavior, she started nipping at our feet and pulling at my slippers, but we've been pretty consistent at handing her another toy or responding with "out" or nose target to get her distracted with something else. She's also been having A LOT of fun playing with our cat 😂 both of them go back and forth with each other and it's really funny to watch! We try our best to monitor them just in case things get too heated, but so far so good.

One incident did happen which is worth mentioning though. Unfortunately, our neighbor has three mastiffs that are extremely vocal and very big. During one of our playtimes outside, they escaped our neighbor's yard, started chasing her and she was very scared. No agressive behavior on their behalf or anything, but very big, loud and very intimidating. Since then she's been having a harder time going outside to p**p and I can tell she's a bit hesitant to go in the back, but I've been working very hard to make it a fun spot to play and I give her tons of treats when we go out so it's slowly getting better. At the very least, it didn't seem to cause any lasting issues–at least, to my knowledge.

All in all, Astrid is absolutely phenomenal! I even got her to fetch and return yesterday which was a huge deal for me 😂 She's such an intelligent and confident puppy and I just love her so much 😁

Here's Oakley with a pupdate!

Oakley is doing great so far in her new home! She's getting use to her kennel and new family very quickly. She loves being outside and going to the park for training. We couldn't have asked for a better addition to our family 🤍

Rafe pupdate !

Rafe’s first week has been a blast! He sleeps well in his kennel at night and love to eat! He enjoys going on walks and wrestling with big sister Wren. He’s enjoying meeting the neighbours and going for car rides! We stopped at the beach today and he’s not sure of the water just yet but he does like playing in the sand! We’re excited for many more memories ahead!

Great opportunity for puppy play in a controlled setting!

Did you just get a puppy and missed out on our current session of classes? Why not bring your puppy out to the PUPPY PLAY GROUPS in August while you wait for the September session of classes to start?

These small, supervised play groups will take place outside in a fully fenced-in area. Puppies will have the opportunity to interact with age-appropriate peers as well as have some time to engage with their guardians. The best of both worlds.

There will be a balance of free play time and some fun game play to promote value for being with their with guardians.

Please email and let me know which dates you would like to attend. [email protected]

From a trusted friend, trainer and one who places a lot of puppies…some really good advice for what to do when taking puppies home , the first day and days folllowing , until you have a routine and pup is used to their new home.

“ I tell people who pick up puppies all the time, no outside visitors, no side quests, no walks, no drives. A new home, on its own, is an entire world away from mine. No two blades of grass on earth smell the same. Imagine the difference between your world and mine.

Take pups home, focus on monitored exploration, sniffing and start work on potty and crate. That's enough for a baby. Once they are secure at home, then slowly begin expanding their world.”

Personally, I’ve had confident pups go to homes only to get feedback that they are timid or scared… then I hear about all the new people , places and things they have been exposed to in their first days home.

This is such great advice for taking a new puppy home and I really wish more people would take the advice for the sake of their puppies.

Tess chased a skunk she saw in the yard this evening... she was sprayed and she was smelly... I couldn't believe how well Nature's Miracle Skunk Odor Remover worked! I applied it to her fur, wiped her face with some on a rag and waited 5 minutes before washing her with dog shampoo. It's definitely something I'll always keep on hand !

If your dog gets skunked tomato juice does not really help nor does water and a regular shampoo ( thioacetates- a component of skunk spray convert to thiols when exposed to water , making the odor more pungent and last longer ).

A mixture of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish soap can also do the trick ... but I found the bottle of Nature's Miracle quite quick to use as it was stored under my dog shower.
