When you’re out enjoying the nice weather this week, don’t be surprised if you see a bird like this. You may be worried, because they look a bit scruffy and probably can’t fly very well. But they’re not injured - they’re just juveniles. Baby birds have to hop before they can fly! Yes, it’s a risky time for them, but the lessons they learn from their parents are very important. So keep your pets away, and leave them be.

🎉Amazing news for animals in Ontario! Effective January 1, 2027 the province will prohibit the declawing of cats and ear cropping/ debarking of dogs! 🎉

While we are disappointed that canine tail docking wasn’t included in the prohibition, we are thrilled that Ontario’s animals will soon be protected from these three unnecessary cosmetic procedures!

We had the most adorable visitor to Community Veterinary Clinic this morning!😻 He was found on the side of the road, all alone. A motorcyclist spotted him, and then a kind woman offered to care for him until he’s old enough to find a home. But she needed some advice! Fortunately, our team were able to get in a few cuddles and guide her on the best way to care for him until he’s ready for a home. Although...we won’t be surprised if he’s already found his fur-ever home and comes back with his new mom soon for wellness care and vaccines. 😻

Today is World Turtle Day! A lot of turtles are on the roads right now - but what’s the best way to help one you find trying to cross? Approach the turtle from behind and pick them up with two hands in the middle of the turtle’s shell like a hamburger (using gloves if available). Help the turtle cross the road in the direction it is facing, even if it doesn’t look like they are going the right way. If you bring them back to where it already was, the turtle will just try to cross the road again. Be sure to wash your hands afterwards. If the turtle is injured, help is available: https://ontarionature.org/help-injured-turtle-ontario-roads-blog/
