Shaving might seem like a great way to keep your pup cool, but for many breeds—especially double-coated dogs like Huskies, Golden Retrievers, Shepherds, and Pomeranians—it can actually do more harm than good.

Here’s why shaving isn’t always safe:

🧥 Double-coated dogs have a built-in cooling system
Their two-layered coat (a soft insulating undercoat + a coarse outer guard coat) works together to regulate body temperature—keeping them cool in summer and warm in winter.

🚫 Shaving disrupts this natural protection

It removes insulation, making it harder for them to cool down.
It exposes the skin to sunburn, bug bites, and injuries.
It can damage the coat permanently, causing it to grow back unevenly or not at all.
It won’t stop shedding—you’ll just get shorter hairs stuck everywhere.
✅ What you should do instead:
✨ Schedule regular de-shedding treatments
✨ Use high-velocity blowouts to remove packed coat and dirt
✨ Brush frequently at home with the right tools
✨ Ask for sanitary and comfort trims around paws, belly, and rear
✨ Try carding or undercoat raking to manage loose hair without harming the top coat
