As a reminder, summer heat can be dangerous for pets, especially dogs with short snouts like Bulldogs, Pugs, and Frenchies.

Watch for signs of overheating like excessive panting or drooling, bright red gums, wobbling, or vomiting. If you notice these signs, get your pet to a cool area, offer water, and call us immediately.

Pets can’t sweat like humans. They cool down through panting and paw pad sweat, so staying hydrated is critical for regulating body temp.

The blacklegged tick is the most common tick species found from Ontario to Eastern Canada. It is the species responsible for transmitting the bacteria that causes Lyme disease to pets and people. Did you know, the greatest risk of acquiring Lyme disease in Canada occurs where populations of ticks that carry Borrelia burgdorferi (the bacteria that causes Lyme disease), have become established. Hi everyone!
I’m Chloe, the summer student here at Summerside Animal Hospital! I’m so excited to be spending my summer doing what I love most; caring for animals and learning from this amazing team. I have three cats and a dog of my own, so being around animals all day feels just like home.
This fall, I’ll be heading off to tech school to start my journey toward becoming a veterinary technician. I’m passionate about helping in any way I can, and I’m so grateful to be part of a clinic that shares that same love for animals!
