This morning I noticed questions on the local “East Hants wants to know” about Lyme disease in cats. Although rare - cats can contract Lyme disease. It is important to seek veterinary advice before applying tick products to a cat. Certain products such as Advantix could kill a cat. Please only use veterinary approved feline products for tick and flea prevention. Our clinic recommends nexgard combo or feline bravecto for use in our feline friends.

Dr. Finlayson was a huge fan - she has an Irish Setter named Jenna and owned a male setter “Riley” as a teenager.

Potcake on the beach. I am back to work in our clinics (Stewiacke River and Coburg Animal Hospital) after performing spays, neuters and emergency work in T and C. I took this picture of a stray dog roaming the beach - several minutes later her puppies appeared from under a bush! Both of our clinics are still accepting new clients and offer same day appointments. I have included a list of surgeries we perform in addition to routine spays and neuters.

Last week my children and I volunteered in Providenciales and covered emergency medicine. One of the potcakes ate a toxic frog and suffered from seizures. He was treated with fluids, medications and went home to his family. Several others were heart worm and erhlichia positive - they were treated with medication. Our clinic in Stewiacke also covers same day appointments and emergency medicine! If you have a rescue dog - Dr. Finlayson has experience treating heartworm and tick borne diseases.
