Cutie in an e-collar alert — Have you ever seen a happier face?!😍📢

Mocha a lovely Golden Retriever was in to visit our team for an allergy consultation and was sporting an e-collar/cone to protect her precious face from all of that itching.

Our pets are just as susceptible to allergies as we are. By considering your pet’s signs and symptoms, you can get a good idea whether they are food, flea, contact or environmental allergies.🤧

Signs Your Pet May Have Allergies:
➡️ Red, Irritated Skin, Hot Spots and Hives.
➡️ Frequent Rolling, Rubbing or Scooting
➡️ Sneezing, Itchy/Runny Eyes, Swollen Face, Ears, Lips & Eyelids.
➡️ Chronic Ear Infections, Red/Stinky Ears and Head Shaking.
➡️ Obsessive Licking, Chewing, Biting or Scratching.
➡️ Vomiting, Diarrhea and frequent Gastrointestinal Upsets.

If your pet is experiencing any of the signs or symptoms listed above, consider contacting our team to book an allergy consultation and discuss treatment options.

Thank you for continuing to trust Lanark Veterinary Clinic with your veterinary care, Mocha and Family!🐾💙

The black flies are out and the question, “what are these red spots/scabs on my dog’s belly?” are rolling in!🪰☀️🐾

Spring and early Summer in our region, while beautiful and long awaited, bring out some tiny pests that bite our pets in sensitive areas with sparse to no fur coverage — typically the underbelly, thighs and back of the ears. While these black fly bites are jarring to find on your beloved pet, they’re typically more of an irritation than cause for serious concern.

Signs of Black Fly Bites can include:
🪰 Small red dots, bumps or spots (sometimes presenting with a dark red outline),
🪰 Scabbing on the belly or areas with sparse to no fur coverage,
🪰 Sensitive to the touch,
🪰 Itching or Irritation.

Typically the bites will heal within a few days, but if your dog is noticeably uncomfortable itching themselves constantly, develops any signs of swelling, or if the spots get much worse, please consider contacting your veterinary team to book and appointment and discuss some treatment options.

Tips for Reducing Black Fly Bites:
💡Limit outdoor time, especially wooded/damp areas during peak black fly activity (dawn/dusk)
💡Limit frequency of laying and rolling in grassy areas,
💡Ask your veterinary team about safe pest prevention options (we’re here to help!)

Please contact our friendly and knowledgable team with any questions or concerns! We hope this information and the tips help our LVC patients enjoy the beautiful weather, itch free!🪰👊🐾

April Giveaway Winner cuteness to fill your timeline on this gorgeous Tuesday!🐾☀️

Our April Giveaway Winners have officially picked up their prize baskets and are loving the goodies that were packed inside! Over $200 worth of clinic products (dental diet, toys, treats, toothpaste, essentials, clinic merch and more!) were up for grabs last month as a special promotional offer for patients who picked up a 6-12 months worth of parasite prevention, and/or attended our SNAP 4Dx clinic from April 1st - 30th, 2026! This was such a fun way for our team to celebrate our patients — thank you to all who participated in the draw!

A big congratulations to our Lanark Veterinary Clinic winners Lola (pictured posing with her prize basket!) and Sir Luna (who was camera shy but still enjoyed all the goodies!) These clinic cuties look so proud posing by their winnings. We absolutely LOVE our LVC patients!

If you missed out on last month’s giveaway, don’t worry, there will be more giveaway opportunities! We have offers coming all year long as our way of saying Thank You for your continued trust in our veterinary team. Stay informed on our social media for updates!🐾✨

Ticks are small, but the risks aren’t. Lyme disease can lead to painful symptoms in pets like swollen joints, lameness and muscle soreness. In more serious cases, it can even affect kidney function.

The good news? Prevention is simple. Talk to your veterinarian about the right parasite protection for your pet. 🐾

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

If you’ve ever visited a veterinary clinic, you’ve seen the care, compassion and dedication that veterinary teams bring to every appointment. What you may not always see is the emotional weight they carry.

Veterinarians and their teams experience some of the highest rates of burnout, stress and suicidal ideation across professions. Every day, they balance complex medical decisions, support families through difficult moments and advocate for animals who can’t speak for themselves. The emotional and moral fatigue is real, and it adds up.

As a pet owner, you play an important role in supporting your veterinary team. When veterinary teams feel supported, it helps them continue providing the high-quality care your pet deserves. Here are a few simple ways to make a meaningful difference:

🔸Lead with kindness – A little patience and understanding can go a long way, especially during busy or stressful times.
🔸Acknowledge their care – A quick “thank you” or positive feedback reminds teams why they do what they do.
🔸Be open and honest – Clear communication helps your veterinary team provide the best possible care for your pet.
🔸Respect boundaries – Clinic teams are doing their best within the time, resources and medical realities they have.
🔸Share appreciation – A kind review, note or even a smile can lift someone’s day more than you might expect.

Behind every appointment is a team that deeply cares, not just about your pet, but about you, too. Let’s show the people who care for our animals that we care for them right back. 💚
