Clementine, a visually impaired cat has ben waiting for a forever home for over 2 years. Please help us find her one.
This is Clementine, a 3 1/2 year old female spayed cat. She has been waiting in the clinic for over 2 years for her forever home.
Clementine comes from the tropical island of Aquilla. She was an abandoned cat, that although visually impaired manage to successfully raise 4 kittens under a garbage dumpster. She and her kittens were rescued and taken to the local shelter. All 4 of Clementine’s kittens were adopted however, despite her young age (under a year), Clementine was deemed unadoptable and scheduled for euthanasia. She was adopted by a student the day before her scheduled euthanasia and brought to Canada.
Although Clem is visually impaired she has no long term health concerns. She is not as active as other cats so she needs a higher fiber food to keep her regular with bowl movements. She has a congenital eye issue that required surgery to fix her abnormal eyelids and relieve the pain she was in. She, unfortunately, will remain visually impaired for life but her pain is gone.
Clem is a affectionate cat, not a lap cat, but wants attention and to be near you. She spends a lot of time on Dr. O'Grady's desk, begging for attention from everyone that enters the office. Being visually impaired does come with some life challenges, jumping onto a desk safely means she needs to know where the obstacles on the desk are and constant moving things around can cause her to fall during a jump. Since she can not see properly quick movements and loud noises startle her.
Unfortunately, living in a veterinary hospital is very stressful for a cat with vision issues. As you can imagine the hospital is full of barking dogs, loud noises and quickly moving people. Clementine is forever getting startled and scared when she can’t see properly and does not know how she needs to react.
Clementine's ideal home would be indoors only, in a quiet household, either as an only pet or with other pets that are sedate and will not startle her. She does get along with other cats, if they do not “ambush” her and does get along with friendly quiet dogs.
Clementine’s adoption fee is $ 225 which will help fund the “AL Fund”, a fund which helps provide care to rescued pets. Dr O’Grady donates her time and covers much of the costs associated with providing care to rescued cats/dogs. When adopting a cat from us, you are giving a rescue cat a forever home and helping the next rescue cat or dog!
