This weekend we said goodbye to our sweet Limeade.

After many thoughtful conversations with his incredible vet team at Orchard Veterinary Care, and with so much love guiding every decision, we helped Limeade cross the rainbow bridge.

Though his body faced challenges far bigger than he was, his spirit never stopped shining. Limeade taught us how powerful gentleness can be. He purred through uncertainty and filled his days with quiet bravery and soft moments that will stay with us forever. And lots and lots of treats and snuggles, of course.

Run free now, little Limeade. You will always be part of us. Letting him & others like him go is the hardest act of love we experience in rescue.

We are so grateful to his foster for giving him the best in his short time with us.

Another heartbreaking loss this weekend. Our little Lava Cake went through way too much in her short life.

After weeks of ringworm treatment and finally getting the first all clear, she and her brother started to decline. The culprit was FIP, which can rear its ugly head when its least expected. While her brother was able to rally and start treatment, Lava Cake's decline was rapid and rough. Along with her medical team, we made the decision that the kindest thing was to say goodbye.

Her foster family saw her through so much, and we are so thankful for everything they poured into her from day one. A task that most would shy away from, they dove right in and gave her everything.

This has been a difficult couple of weeks for us. Rescue is always hard, but sometimes the hurt piles up way too high.

We unfortunately said goodbye to our beloved senior girl Roxanne, when she unexpectedly started to decline.

Roxanne first came to us in 2016 as a shy stray. She was adopted into a loving home, but unfortunately was returned to our care in 2023 due to circumstances beyond her and her adopters control.

Since 2023 she has been in the care of an amazing foster family, who loved her like one of her own. We are forever grateful to them for the love and care until the end.

We will continue to share some of the stories that have impacted us recently.

Meet Kraft Dinner! Yes, that Kraft Dinner, and just like the comfort food, she showed up when it was cold and everyone needed a little warmth.

This tough kitty came to us through the WCVM Small Animal Hospital after being rescued from freezing temperatures at a business just outside the city limits. She’d been through a lot, suffering from frostbite and a large wound on her hip. Thankfully they were able to get her patched up and feeling better.

Now safe, warm, and wrapped in loving care, this cheesy little survivor is on the road to recovery, getting bandage changes every few days. But with every purr, she proves she’s got plenty of fight! KD is as resilient as a late-night box of mac & cheese and just as comforting to have around.

We’re so grateful to the kind folks who helped scoop Kraft Dinner out of the cold and into care.
Please keep cheering her on as she heal, because this is one comeback story that’s definitely grate (one last bonus cheese pun for you).
