🐾 Meet Scottie + the Seven Surprises 🐾

Our sweet mama Scottie has officially made it through two weeks of motherhood like a champ, and her babies (five boys + two girls) have just opened their eyes 👀 and are already showing off their personalities.

Now, here’s the real question: what the heck ARE these puppies?
Mama is the cutest mid-size mystery mix with zero husky or bully vibes… and yet the puppies’ markings are definitely giving husky/bully energy. Dad was clearly also an adorable mix—so what we’ve got here is a whole litter of purebred Delightful Wildcards™.

✨ The good news:
• Scottie is midsize, so we hope her puppies won’t land in the giant category. But who knows? That’s the gamble when you’re playing “Guess That DNA!”
• They’ll be ready for adoption in about six weeks.
• If they’re anything like mama, they’ll make wonderful family pets.

👑 As for Scottie herself—this sweet queen will also be looking for a forever home. She’s easygoing, loves being loved, and would fit into most homes seamlessly. Zero drama, just tail wags.

👉 But here’s where we need YOUR help:
These little nuggets need names—and not just any names. They need a theme.

Some fun ideas to get you started:
🎬 TV shows (Friends, Bridgerton, Stranger Things)
🍦 Ice cream flavours (Rocky, Vanilla, Cookie Dough)
🌌 Constellations (Orion, Lyra, Vega)
🌿 Herbs & spices (Basil, Sage, Nutmeg)
🏰 Disney characters (Simba, Belle, Stitch)

Drop your theme + name suggestions below—we’ll pick one and share their “official” names soon!

Because what’s cuter than a mystery litter with a matching name set? 🐶💛

A big THANK YOU to Pet Valu St. Thomas for their generous donation of high-quality dog food! 🐾💛

Good nutrition is key to keeping our rescue dogs healthy, happy, and ready for their forever homes — and donations like this save us a huge expense, allowing us to put more resources into vet care, enrichment, and helping even more dogs.

We’re so grateful for the community we get to do rescue in — you make all the difference! 🐶

🐾 Meet Lucy 🐾
Hi, I’m Lucy — a puppy mill survivor with a heart as sweet as pie. 💛
I’m looking for a foster home where patience, kindness, and love are the daily special. I’m still learning what it means to be a spoiled, well-loved dog, so I need someone who can guide me as I settle in.

Because of my past, I’ll need:
✔️ A secure yard to keep me safe
✔️ A quiet home without little kids
✔️ A canine buddy would be wonderful to help me feel confident

✨ What fostering means:
We provide everything — food, supplies, vetting, and support — you provide a safe space, gentle hands, and the time to help me blossom.

Let’s turn my rescue story into a love story. 🐶💖

🐾 Where Do MARS Animals Come From?
At Myrtle Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, people often ask where our animals come from — and the short answer is: everywhere.

💔 Some are surrendered by loving owners who can no longer care for them due to illness, financial hardship, or significant lifestyle changes.

🚨 Some come from puppy mills, discarded when their “profitability” ended or when they needed medical care.

🏥 Some are transferred from partner shelters — especially animals like June or Doris, who wouldn’t cope well in a loud, chaotic shelter environment while undergoing treatment for significant medical issues.

📦 Some are abandoned entirely — found as strays or left behind when people move. We work closely with local animal control and agencies like K9 Ground Search to help these forgotten souls.

🧓 Some are seniors with complex medical needs, surrendered when care became too hard or too expensive. We believe every life has value, no matter their age or condition.

🐶 Some are born in our care, when heavily pregnant dogs come into rescue. We make sure both mom and pups get a safe, gentle start and are adopted responsibly.

🏚️ Some became homeless alongside their owners during tough times.

🕊️ Some were left behind when their owners passed away, with no plan in place for their care.

We never exchange money for surrendered animals. And while we are always ready to help, we don’t solicit animals into our rescue — we’re not out looking to fill spaces. We believe that when you operate with compassion and integrity, the animals who need you will find their way to you.

If someone surrenders a litter of puppies, we spay the mother at our expense — no exceptions. If we can’t stop the cycle, what are we even doing?

Every intake is considered carefully — based on space, need, and our ability to provide quality care. We also match animals with fosters experienced in specific behaviours, breeds, and medical needs.

❤️ No matter where they come from, our mission is always the same: meet them with compassion, care for them as individuals, and find them forever homes where they are safe, loved, and never abandoned again.

🐾 A Mountain of Comfort, Thanks to the Springfield Swans! 🐾

We are absolutely blown away by the generosity of the Springfield Swans — Rosemarie Birdsell, BethAnn Conners, Cheryl Wilson, and Cindy Earhart — who delivered a HUGE donation of cozy dog beds for our rescue pups.

These beds mean our dogs will have a soft, warm place to rest their heads while they wait for their forever homes. ❤️

Thank you, ladies, for your kindness, your hearts, and for making our dogs’ days (and naps!) so much better.

From all of us at MARS (Julie says PUPPIES!) — and especially from the pups — we are so grateful for you! 🐶💛

🐾 SECONDHAND SOULS SERIES 🐾
Bringing Home a New Dog?
Here's how to introduce two adult dogs like a pro 👇

1. Meet on Neutral Ground
Avoid home turf! Choose a quiet park or trail for your first sniff.

2. Walk It Out
Start with parallel walks—same direction, 10+ feet apart. Gradually close the gap if both dogs are chill.

3. Read the Room
Watch for stiff posture, lip licking, growling, or tail tucks. These are signs you may need to slow down.

4. No Face-to-Face Pressure
Let them meet side-by-side. Avoid head-on greetings—they can feel confrontational.

5. Keep Leashes Loose
A tight leash = tension. Stay in control but keep things relaxed.

6. Keep It Short & Sweet
A few minutes of calm sniffing = a win. Don’t push for friendship on Day 1.

7. No Toys or Treats Yet
Food, bones, and balls can trigger resource guarding. Save the snacks for later!

8. Breaks Are Your Best Friend
Let them decompress between sessions. Some dogs need multiple slow intros.

9. Home Sweet… Structure
Let the new dog explore solo first. Use baby gates, crates, and leashes to manage early hangouts.

10. Don’t Rush It
Some dogs are besties right away. Some just become respectful roommates. Go at their pace.

Esme & Carlisle — Last Two Standing! 🐾
While their siblings have packed their bags for forever homes, Esme (sleek black beauty) and Carlisle (handsome black-and-white heartthrob) are still waiting for their perfect match.

These pups hit the jackpot in the genetics department. Their mom, Bella, was a 7-year-old boxer/shepherd mix with the gentlest, calmest soul — the kind of dog who made everyone fall in love. Their dad, a Brittany Spaniel, brings smarts, athleticism, and a big love of adventure. That means these pups are social, outgoing, and ready to learn whatever you want to teach them.

Esme and Carlisle will thrive in homes that can keep up with their playful energy, give them plenty of training, and let them be part of all the fun. Whether that’s hiking trails, playing fetch, or snuggling on the couch — they’re in.
