As the summer heats up, keeping your pet hydrated is more important than ever! Here are some tips on how to spot the signs of dehydration in your dog:

🦷 Sticky or Tacky Gums: Healthy gums should be slick and wet. If they feel dry or take longer to turn pink, your pup needs water!

🦴 Poor Skin Elasticity: Try gently pinching the skin between your dog’s shoulder blades. If it doesn’t snap back quickly, it’s time for a drink.

💦 Thick Saliva: Ropey or thick saliva is a sign your dog is thirsty.

💤 Lethargy & Sunken Eyes: Low energy and sunken eyes can mean your pet is dehydrated.

👅 Excessive Panting: More panting than usual? Your dog may be struggling to cool down.

🚨🐾 EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING: BRING YOUR PETS INSIDE. 🐾🚨

This isn't just a few hot days—it's very dangerous. If you have dogs, cats, rabbits, or any other companion animals living outdoors, they need to come inside.

Shade and water are not enough during extreme heat. High temperatures and humidity can quickly become life-threatening, even for healthy animals. Every year, too many pets suffer and die from heat-related illnesses that are completely preventable.

They belong inside during an excessive heat warning.

Please:
🐾 Bring all pets indoors where it's cool.
💧 Keep fresh water available at all times.
🚫 Never leave a pet in a parked vehicle.
🌅 Limit walks to early morning or late evening, and protect paws from hot pavement.
🐦 Place bowls of fresh water outside for wildlife and community cats who have nowhere else to go.

If you see a dog left outside in dangerous conditions, don't ignore it. Check on the animal if it's safe to do so, contact and report to authorities, especially in situations where an animal appears to be in distress.
