Meet Marcie ❤️🐕

This girl is pure joy 💜 sweet, spirited, and full of life. Her family wanted to make the most of her boarding stay with us, so we enrolled her in our Boarding Enrichment Program. Watching her thrive throughout her time here has been an absolute pleasure.

Here’s what Marcie’s days looked like while she was with us at Martindale Kennels:

🏃 Treadmill sessions: a calm, focused way to burn physical energy right here in the kennel
🌿 Structured trail walks: time to sniff, explore, and decompress on leash in a purposeful way
🧠 In-kennel enrichment: mental stimulation and confidence-building activities throughout her stay
📋 Report cards & videos: so her family could follow along and celebrate every win with us

The structure and calm Marcie built during her stay doesn’t have to stop at the kennel door. That confidence can absolutely carry over into life at home — and for families who want to keep the momentum going, our training program is always a wonderful next step.

Boarding enrichment is more than just keeping your dog busy while you’re away. It’s giving them the space to feel settled, stimulated, and truly cared for.

Is your dog’s walk a source of stress? 😩 Here’s what every dog owner needs to know. 👇

At Martindale Kennels, we work with the tough cases — reactivity, anxiety, and bad manners. One of the biggest secrets to transforming your dog’s behaviour on walks is understanding the balance between two very different types of walks.

1. The Structured Walk
This is all about focus and neutrality. Your dog walks with you — nose up, eyes forward, no stopping to sniff, no pulling ahead. This is essential for reactive dogs because it teaches them to tune into you and ignore distractions. You set the pace. You set the rules.

2. The Decompression Walk
This is for your dog’s mental health. On a long line in a safe environment, your dog gets to sniff, explore, and just be a dog. This type of walk lowers anxiety, fulfils natural instincts, and provides the mental enrichment that tires a dog out far more effectively than physical exercise alone.

The secret? Structure earns freedom. We use structured walks in high-distraction environments, and reward that focus with decompression time in safe spaces. You need both for a truly balanced dog.

Dogs (and cats!) have incredible senses of smell and letting them put their noses to work is a great way to challenge them mentally and physically.

Buddy putting in the work!

Treadmill sessions are a key part of our boarding enrichment program, helping Buddy burn energy, build confidence, and stay mentally balanced during his stay.

Structured exercise + clear guidance = a calm, fulfilled dog.

Boarding enrichment activities and pack walks are helping Momo stay calmer in situations that would normally feel stressful. Structured exercise, clear guidance, and time spent moving with other dogs help build confidence and encourage a more balanced state of mind. 🐾

It’s amazing what the right outlet for energy and a little structure can do for a dog’s overall mindset! But he is still our little “tough” guy 🤣
