🚨 New World Screwworm Update 🚨

While New World Screwworm (NWS) is not currently present in Canada, recent detections in the United States have led to temporary import restrictions.

Currently, animals that originate from or have been present in Texas within 21 days prior to crossing the border are not eligible for entry into Canada due to the risk of New World Screwworm.

One small benefit of living somewhere that sees temperatures of -40°C? ❄️ Screwworms aren’t exactly fans of our climate!

New World Screwworm is a parasitic fly whose larvae feed on living tissue, causing severe and potentially life-threatening wounds in livestock and other animals. Although Canada remains free of the disease, these import restrictions highlight the importance of continued surveillance and biosecurity.

Horse owners should also be aware that a separate 21-day quarantine requirement remains in place for horses travelling from New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Texas due to Vesicular Stomatitis (VS).

We’ll continue to monitor the situation and share updates as they become available.

Our brand new building is coming in 2027 ✨
✔️ 2 new surgery suites
✔️ CT imaging
✔️ More stalls
✔️ More space to care for the horses we love

We’re so excited for what’s ahead and incredibly grateful to our clients for their patience and support throughout the construction process 💙🐴

Casts aren’t just for broken bones 👀
In horses, we can also use foot casts to stabilize high-motion areas, like heel bulb or fetlock wounds helping protect the tissue and promote better healing. 🩹🐴

We’re happy to report this horse is doing great and the wound has healed beautifully!💛💙
