Casts aren’t just for broken bones 👀
In horses, we can also use foot casts to stabilize high-motion areas, like heel bulb or fetlock wounds helping protect the tissue and promote better healing. 🩹🐴

We’re happy to report this horse is doing great and the wound has healed beautifully!💛💙

Last Friday we had a medical emergency with Melo’s new foal.
I called our equine vet who had us immediately bring her in to the clinic where she stayed all day. Unfortunately by late afternoon, it became apparent she was going to require intensive specialized support so the referral was put in to Moores Equine North for us. Dr Sarah, (who is friggen amazing!)got Buffy stabilized and comfortable enough to handle the long 3.5 hour haul to Calgary and also sent Buffy’s medical notes to Moores so they would be ready to admit her upon arrival. I just had to get her to the hospital.

At Moores, Buffy was monitored and received supportive treatment around the clock. Melo was an amazing mama through the whole ordeal too.

Melo and Buffy came home on Tuesday. I am watching my filly run and buck in her paddock today thanks to two amazing vet teams. Although both clinics were absolutely slammed with other critical cases, they managed to take care of our little foal right away. I couldn’t be more thankful for the medical attention she received from both clinics Westhills Equine Veterinary Services and Moore Equine Veterinary Centre Hug your foals and hug your vets too! It can’t be easy diagnosing, treating critical horses and also supporting their super scared owners at the same time. I can’t express my appreciation enough. Thank you!!

Also a huge thank you to my husband who dropped everything to help me get Melo and Buffy to Calgary right away.❤️

⚠️Surgical content⚠️ Helping things move along, colic surgery edition—this enterotomy got things back on track and our patient is recovering well! 💙
