It's hard to believe that today marks two years since we opened our gates and began operating as a boarding facility.
What started as a dream and a lot of hard work has grown into something we're incredibly proud of. Before we opened our gates we spent a year outfitting two new paddocks, re doing our arena fencing, adding a new road and redoing the entire driveway in gravel. Over the past two years since we’ve been operating as a facility, we've built 3 new paddocks and shelters, improved fencing, expanded grazing areas, developed riding spaces, and continued making the property a place where horses can thrive.
More importantly, we've welcomed wonderful horses and great people who have become part of the SVS Ranch family. We've celebrated milestones, supported each other through challenges, and watched horses settle in and flourish.
To everyone who has boarded with us, taken lessons with us, supported our projects, shared our posts, or cheered us on along the way thank you. Your support has helped shape what SVS Ranch is today.
We're excited for what the future holds, (watch our posts for upcoming mountain trail work!) with more improvements, more opportunities, and more memories still to come.
Here's to two years of growth, learning, happy horses and many more ahead. 🐴❤️(scroll to the bottom for some good before shots!)

Spring turnout day 🌱🐴

After reworking and reseeding our fields last year, and letting them grow up and get established, the horses finally got their first taste of this year’s spring grass, and they were pretty excited about it! Watching them run and play out in the fresh grass never gets old.

This field is located right across the road from the main property, making it easy to bring the horses back and forth while we carefully manage their turnout time.

Because rich spring grass can be hard on horses if introduced too quickly, turnout is kept very limited at first while they slowly adjust to the change in diet. Slow and steady keeps everyone happy and healthy.

Leo and Hawk are staying up on the round bale paddock for now while these guys adjust to the new grass.

Safe to say the fresh grass was worth the wait 💚

Some returning boarders settling back in! 🐴💛
We set up a shared round bale between paddocks to allow for a little more customized feeding, keeping one pen smaller and combining two into one while still making feeding time simple and efficient. It’s also been a nice way to provide some extra hay before the first square bale cut starts coming off the fields around here.
When we set up the feeder, we also dropped a split board to place a shared water tub between the paddocks. Having these split-board setups makes it easy for neighbouring pens to share water while still keeping everyone comfortably separated.
We love having familiar faces back at SVS Ranch and opening these paddocks back up means we’re almost full for the season. We currently only have one paddock space left for summer (this one is seasonal only, as it becomes our boys’ and the herds paddock when they come home from pasture), and we’ll have one additional paddock space opening up in August.
We will still have a few spaces available in our pasture herd come June as well. These spots will be wintered in the back large paddock come September.
We have plans to fence two more large paddocks which will open up more boarding spots in the future.
It’s been so nice seeing the ranch full of horses again. 🐴

A couple familiar faces are enjoying a little staycation at SVS Ranch. 🐴
Chance has a big clinic this weekend and was starting to get a little cranky with the Aggie routine, so he came out for a few days of turnout, fresh air, and a reset. Sometimes stepping away from the busy atmosphere is exactly what they need to come back relaxed and ready to work.
Hawk is back from the Agriplex as well while his mom’s schedule gets busy again and winter wraps up, so the boys are both enjoying some country downtime.
Safe to say they’ve settled back in just fine

Spring cleanup is officially underway, this year we brought in a skid steer on tracks to help the tractor tackle the aftermath of a very full winter, and wow… the poo piles are definitely bigger than last year. 😅 The monster manure pile is huge.
We stayed full right through the winter and even plowed and opened up our emergency paddocks for a few weeks when some family friends and their ponies needed a little break. With that many horses on the property, mud season could have been a disaster, but our gravel foundation really proved itself.
We stayed nice and dry all winter, and after only a few weeks of thaw the paddocks are already nearly fully dried out. We’ve been so impressed with how well everything has held up despite the horse traffic, the wet, and the muck that usually comes with having a busy property all winter.
Lots of cleanup ahead, but it’s nice seeing all the planning and prep paying off. 🐴🚜

A big thank you to Darcy for the help with the skid steer. He even added some drainage paths through our paddocks to help move water out and speed up the drying. If you’ve got a job to tackle, big or small, he’s the man to call. Quick, efficient, and clearly knows exactly what he’s doing.

Hay nets that strap right onto the panels = barn win.
When we moved a couple of our boys over to Aggie for a few weeks, we brought these along , and they’ve been perfect while our arena dries out properly. Easy to hang, keeps things tidy, and helps slow them down a bit.
Sometimes it’s the simple setups that just work. Stop by, take a looks and see if they are something that could work in your barns!

Thanks Lissa Quinlan and K-bale Hay Feeders
And Terri for dropping it off so we saved on some shipping costs!

A fresh look and some exciting things in the works ✨
We’ve started using some new logos and you’ll likely see them around at a few upcoming events.
They’re just a starting point and will most likely evolve as things continue to develop, but we’re excited to finally begin sharing them.
There are some fun things coming down the road — stay tuned!

The last of our new shelters are officially done and the horses are already giving them their stamp of approval.
Built to stay dry, cozy, and comfortable through every kind of northern weather, these shelters are one of the final touches in our winter prep. Fresh footing, sturdy build, tucked among the trees… exactly the kind of quiet, safe space we want for every horse here.
Loving how everything is coming together out here. 🐴✨
