Horseback riding offers a new way to experience this beauty, seperate from hikes or wilderness wandering. Riding, you can let your horse pay attention to the trail, so you can focus on the nature around you, allowing yourself to soak into the experience in a magnified way. A pause on winter yesterday as we warmed up well above freezing. It was quite windy and some of the horses rested in the forest. I am sure they like the reprieve from the cold.

Buffy was built for winter, she stays outside most of the days and night regardless of the weather. She does have her own dog door into the cabin and does settle in on the couch for good naps.

Yesterday morning was really cold-30c. The horses are smart and went to the meadow that the sun reaches first to get the radiant heat from the sun. Sara wouldn’t leave her sunny spot Evan though she knew her grain was being served up.

These two got separated from the herd, Applesauce is not too fussed but Dakota is anxious. They did find the herd in the end.

The horses were pretty frosty Christmas Day, however the sun rose and the horses soaked up the radiant heat. It was a gorgeous day at the ranch yesterday.

A nice winter day here at the ranch on Saturday. Though the horses continually have access to hay they still like to paw the snow to expose the grasses in the meadow to eat.

Yesterday was so beautiful after a few cm of fresh snow as the horses enjoy a walkabout around the ranch.

These horse love treats and will patiently wait for quite a time hoping I will give them treats, and who could resist not giving them some, I know I can’t.

This is the first feeding of hay this season yesterday, there is still grass for them to graze on but the energy in the grass is diminishing so we’ll feed them 50% of there normal hay rations until they require100%.
