Gotta love Alberta weather! From sweating through our waterproofs in just t-shirts on Thursday, to almost freezing in a mini blizzard on Friday!

Our team are tough and currently over 4000 cows checked and counting as we come into our busiest month of the year 🐮 💪

A big shout out to everyone who came out to our Feedlot producer meeting and supper at the clinic this week 🥩

Dr Toms talk covered a whole host of feedlot topics: from effective processing and teamwork to treatment strategies for BRD in freshly weaned calves 🐮

We hope you all learned something useful to take back to your operations!

We’d love to know what you guys would like to hear about as a topic for our next cow/ calf producer meeting, which we will plan for after fall run! ✏️ 📖

May your silaging and combining be breakdown free and we look forward to seeing you chute side!

If anyone has a house or double wide within 30 minutes of town that they would consider renting to our new vet let us know! Must be pet friendly!

As everyone gets into sourcing feed for the winter, make sure your animals are getting good quality safe feed by getting your samples in ahead of time! 🌾

For sampling instructions our technician can walk you through the process if you haven’t feed tested before.

For questions regarding nutrition call the clinic and we can have Dr. Tom reach out, he’s always happy to nerd out over Neutral Detergent Fibre and such! 🤓

What do you think we really asked him? Had to jump on this trend.and stitch Dr Tom up a little 😂

👋 WELCOME BACK!
Summer may be winding down, but our team has certainly made the most of the slower summer season☀️🐮

From vetting at Indian Relay, barrel racing to goat showing. Theres been lots of family time, and plenty of the weird & wonderful cases that keep veterinary life interesting!

We’ve also been thrilled to spend time working alongside Persian Dreams Rescue on their Trap-Neuter-Release program, helping make a difference for animals in our community. ❤️

And there’s one more milestone worth celebrating… 🎉 Dr. Bryony is officially a Canadian citizen! 🇨🇦🍁

Now we’re rested, recharged, and ready to get back to doing what we love.

🍂 Bring on the fall run! 🍂 (PS get those preg checks booked in!)

Hit play to see what our crew have been up to this summer, and we’ll see you out there!

Happy Canada Day Everyone! 🇨🇦
We hope you all have as much fun as our project calves Moolissa and Calfleen had on their first controlled turn out in their Canada themed casts!
Both had almost identical open fractures, but as of last weekend they are both healed and cast free (and triple the size!)
Any profits from their sale in the fall will be donated to agricultural programs at Irvine and Yuill school!
Thanks to all our clients for an awesome season!

Case Blast - Cancer Eye in Cattle 🐄👁️
Cancer eye (ocular squamous cell carcinoma) is one of the most common eye cancers in cattle, especially in our white-faced friends.
Early surgical treatment is key to preventing spread and achieving a good outcome.

Two procedures we often do for cancer eye:

▪️Third Eyelid Removal (1st set of images)
This involves removing the nictitating membrane (the “third eyelid”), which is often involved in early tumor growth.
✔ Less invasive
✔ Often done in early or localized cases
✔ May be combined with cryotherapy - which we did use in this case!

▪️Exenteration
A much more extensive surgery where the entire contents of the eye socket are removed, including the eyeball and surrounding tissues.
✔ Used for more advanced or invasive tumors
✔ More aggressive but reduces risk of recurrence
✔ Requires longer healing time

⚖️ Key Difference:
Third eyelid removal is targeted and conservative, while eventration is more radical and used for severe, deep or widespread disease.
