Now that’s a sunburn!

Photosensitivity (extreme sensitivity to sunlight) can be caused by ingestion of certain plants containing photo-reactive pigments or those causing toxic changes to the liver.

The skin problems do not become obvious until the animal is exposed to UV rays, which then damages non-pigmented skin causing it to die and slough off.

Anti-inflammatories, a thorough clean of the affected area, fly control and keeping out of the sun temporarily should have this girl back on track in no time!

Sorry for the radio silence!

We’ve been busy with the massive project of constructing the clinic building! It’s coming along nicely and we’re hoping to have it completely finished and fully functional for next spring!

It’s that time of year!

With calving season drawing to a close, we are now well into the semen testing groove, with Dr. Tom and Darby doing the first 90 bull day of the year this week! 💪

If you haven’t already give us a call on 403-376-5774 to get your bull herd scheduled in. We cover a 2 hour radius from Medicine Hat!

Meet the team!

Darby Regehr RVT

Darby was raised on farm outside of Strathmore Alberta. A used-to-be hog farm, now hobby farm, with longhorns and horses.

She attended Old College and received a certificate in Veterinary Medical Reception in 2016, then went on to get her Diploma in Animal Health Technology at Lakeland College in 2018. She has worked in mixed animal practice since.

She is currently living in Medicine Hat with her boyfriend, Mitchell and Aussie Shepherd, Tibbs. She enjoys riding, roping, 90s country, and mocking the British accents of vets Tom and Bryony.

Darby will be riding with our Drs’ for our busiest days, helping out with calvings, semen testing and preg-checking. She has also completed the Bovine Ultrasound course for technologists this year, so watch this space!

Meet the team!

Robyn Andersen RVT

Robyn grew up on an acreage in central Alberta and was always involved in the neighbourhood activities with livestock.

After graduating from Olds College Animal Health Technology program in 2006, she has spent most of her career in rural community practice in central Alberta, working with a varied large animal caseload including beef cows, bison and elk work. She has also spent stints in an equine surgery/referral clinic as well as teaching at Olds College.

As well as working full time Robyn has been breeding high quality dairy goats for almost 15 years.

Robyn moved to the Medicine Hat area 5 years ago and brought the horses, dogs, cats and dairy goats south.

Last year she and Jordan welcomed their small human into the family and are enjoying raising him on the farm.

Robyn will be our go to for all things in office and will likely be the friendly voice helping you on the phone when our Dr’s are on the road!

Dr. Bryony George

Having graduated and moved to Alberta together with Tom, Bryony has worked as a mixed veterinarian in Southern Alberta for the past 5 years.

She has always enjoyed the variety and fast pace of mixed work and is a skilled small animal surgeon.

Bryony works full-time as a veterinarian in Medicine Hat and has always gone above and beyond in search of new challenges – volunteering with the Alberta Spay Neuter Task Force and coordinating our pop-up vaccination clinics.

You’ll likely see her helping with calls out on farm in calving season!

In her spare time, Bryony enjoys team penning, softball, skiing and spending time at the lake.
