~ Service Dog Saturday ~

SDIT Evee (previously Alfie) was excited for her first visit the Toronto Zoo last week! She saw many animals that she probably didn't know existed. Her handler was kind enough to share some pictures of her adventures.

Evee (Alfie) joined our SDIT program dog team January 2025. She moved in full time with her new handler in the late 2025 and has been working on finalizing her skills. She attends two group classes per week and is planning for her Canine Good Neighbor test this summer. We are very proud of Evee (Alfie) and her handler - they have grown to become a great team.

Program dogs live with our family and learn Service Dog basics. They participate in group training classes, learn foundation skills, and go out for public access training. Once they are ready to meet their potential handler, we begin the process of task training to accommodate for the specific needs of their paired client. Although we are accepting applications, we currently have a one year waiting list for program dogs.

Outrun Dog Training and Kennel accept both owner trained SDITs and offer program dogs. We carry a waiting list for program dog applications but most owner trained SDITs can complete their assessment and join at a level which most fits their needs.

Happy 9th Birthday to Service Dog Chloe!

Every year, Chloe's birthday falls around the time for VMX Conference in Orlando, Florida. So for her birthday every year we pack up, hop an airplane, and go learn new stuff! Of course, it sure is fantastic that this conference is in Orlando - where Chloe gets to go visit her favorite place! Walt Disney World!

Chloe was the very first service dog trained by the Outrun team (because teamwork makes the dreamwork!). She came as an unwanted puppy at the shelter, and was anemic from SO many fleas and internal parasites.

Now, Chloe has 8 service tasks and travels all over with her family. She has climbed mountains, traveled to Banff, stood on a glacier, ridden gondolas, flown countless airlines, swam in the ocean in Bahamas, toured uncounted zoos, shelters and malls, as well as visited so many theme parks!!

Congratulations to Fidget for completing the requirements for her Intermediate Obedience!

Our program requirements for obedience are that the dog and handler team can complete all of the below requirements both inside a room with 2+ dogs as well as outside with 2+ dogs around.

Intermediate Obedience:
Sit - Verbal cue
Down - Verbal cue
Stay - 5 minutes + 20 ft
Come - 30 ft
Heel - 50 ft with both left/right turns
