Lucy came to us when her owner was unable to care for her any longer. Although she was super shy when she first arrived, she has proven to be a silly goofy gal. She is estimated to be 4 years old and we believe she is a Landseer Newfoundland Dog. We haven't had her swimming but with her webbed toes we think she will be great!

Lucy loves other dogs and has lived with cats previously. Due to her size and initial shyness, we recommend an adult home for this lady.

If you are interested in adopting Lucy, please complete an adoption application at https://form.jotform.com/250635924183055 .

Kailey is an adult mini poodle mix who has found herself looking for a new home after her owner was unable to care for her anymore.

Kailey walks well on a leash, and seems to get along with other dogs. We believe at one time she was housetrained, however will need a bit of a refresher course!

If you are interested in adopting Kailey, please complete an adoption application at https://form.jotform.com/250635924183055 .

"Here's your one chance, Fancy, don't let me down" ~ Fancy, Reba McEntire

We named this girl Fancy because she has a beautiful soul and the life she was served thus far has been super difficult. Similar to Reba McEntire's song, Fancy, this is the story of a down on her luck woman who is doing everything in her power to try to get by and make ends meet.

Fancy is a beautiful, regal, and sweet adult German Shepherd Dog. Considering the circumstances how she arrived, it seems that she was most likely an ex breeding dog that had been dumped off on a busy roadway. She had deep, dried up mammary glands that still haven't receded despite being in our care since July 15!

When she went in for her spay surgery, we ran a 4dx bloodwork panel and found that she was positive for Lyme disease and Anaplasmosis. Both of these are tick-borne diseases. Once she finishes her medication for these infections, she should be ready to move into her new home.

Fancy has been working in a group training environment and has started learning her basic obedience skills. She seems to be particular about her dog friends but we haven't tested her with cats.

If you are interested in adopting Fancy, please complete an adoption application at https://form.jotform.com/250635924183055 .

Stevie is 6 to 7 months old and she has had quite the adventure for such a short life! Although Stevie had to have both of her eyes surgically removed, nobody told her that she's any different from the other dogs. (SSHHHH! Don't say a word!!) She runs and plays as though she hasn't a care in the world.

Stevie had retinal detachment, cataract formation and a congenital condition called goniodysgenesis. This was causing pressure to build in her eyes which can lead to pain in the optic nerve and she was becoming increasingly head shy (which is an indication that there was some underlying pain already). We worked with an ophthalmologist for several months to see if the condition's symptoms could be halted but it became progressively worse until she was completely blind in both eyes. A recommendation was made by a veterinarian to remove the eyes which was done mid-August.

Stevie has been healing and recovering nicely. She is a loving and sweet dog who gets along great with other dogs and loves to snuggle with her people on the couch. She would like a predictable home where the furniture isn't often relocated so that she can keep a mental map of her living space.

Stevie needs slow introductions to people and dogs since she has to rely on her smell and hearing. Stevie will act similarly to a 'normal' dog and will still need obedience training like any other puppy. Stevie's eyes do not require any long term medical treatment and she should be able to live a normal, happy life.

If you are interested in adopting Stevie, please complete an adoption application at https://form.jotform.com/250635924183055 .

** In search of a palliative home **

Rocco's owners were evicted earlier this year and were unable to find a new residence. This 13 year old dog had no idea that he had lost the only family he had ever known until it was already gone. They have been homeless for almost 5 months and have been working through the sheltering system but at this time do not have a plan to move into a permanent address.

We are devastated to think that Rocco's last days would be in a kennel so we are reaching out to our community with a plea for help. We are looking for a palliative home for Rocco to live out his remaining days.

Rocco has some medical conditions including atypical Addison's disease which means he will need a daily pill medication taken in his food for the rest of his life (client cost is about $50 per month) plus occasional bloodwork a few times a year (client cost for this is estimated at $90).

Rocco has gained 15 lbs since arriving to Outrun and the ear infection that he arrived with has fully cleared up. We believe he may have a certain amount of permanent deafness and we are unsure if that was caused by his long term ear infection or if it is age related deterioration. He moves with a stiffness in his joints and would benefit from some glucosamine in his kibble to help with any discomfort he feels.

For further information about helping Rocco, please send an email to [email protected]

Hey there! Do you like my bowtie?

My name is Capris. I was born here at Outrun and when I was old enough, I went to a new family. Unfortunately, I did not get along with the cats in the house and since they were there first, I have found myself in the situation where I am looking for a new home.

At 9 months old, I'm still a puppy. I have recently been participating in the basic manners class here at Outrun and I overheard the teachers saying that I will be getting a B on my report card! That means I know what I'm supposed to do but I sometimes get excited and forget.

I love to play soccer and would play with you all day if you're up for it. I'm playful with other dogs, love people, and would make a great addition to a family with no cats. I can't wait to meet you and play all day!

Well hello there! My name is Boomer. I came to Outrun as an unclaimed stray but when I arrived I had a whole lot of TICKS on me! In fact, you may be able to see some of them in my photos.

Can you guess how many ticks I had? I’ll give you a hint … there were more than 10!

The team at Outrun called me Tickles for a while since I had so many Tick-People attached and I was hand-shy, but they realized that the name Boomer fit me better.

I am currently waiting on surgery for my eyes. I have entropian eyelid deformity which means my eyelids curl inwards and my eyelashes scratch the surface of my eyes. I’m lucky that the Outrun veterinary team is able to help me with this because my eyes hurt and they are always weeping. I had an eye and an ear infection when I came.

I’ll try to send you all an update soon!

Here are a few quick things about me:
- I ignore most dogs but new people frighten me so I like it when I can meet people slowly.
- I am very big and strong and I don’t have much experience walking nicely on a leash.
- I’m estimated to be 2 years old and probably a cane corso

If you are interested in adopting me, please send an email to [email protected] or complete an adoption application at https://form.jotform.com/250635924183055

Do you hear that little voice in the corner? Yeah, hi, that's me.

My name is Ginger and I'm looking for a new home.

I arrived at Outrun last year from a place where there were more than 20 dogs and it seemed that everyone was either pregnant or raising puppies. It was very loud and frightening at times. I went to a new home in the spring and didn't think I'd ever look back, but sometimes life isn't fair.

You see, I have many things that make me frightened and sometimes when I'm scared I run without watching where I'm going - even if that's over the fence. My adopters found it was too difficult to deal with me running away so I had to come back to Outrun for another chance. Here I am again, looking for a new home.

I'm looking for a quiet home who will be patient with me while I learn to trust you. I love other dogs and would enjoy sharing a home with one. Since I'm a cocker spaniel I will need regular grooming so please help me find a salon where the groomer will be patient with me. I will need to be leashed in the yard at least until I know that your home is my safe place too.

Here are a few quick things about me:
- I get along well with dogs and cats.
- I am low energy.
- I'm 3 years old
- I am crate trained (they are usually safe spaces!)
- I am spayed, chipped, and am up to date on my vaccinations

If you are interested in adopting me, please send an email to [email protected] or complete an adoption application at https://form.jotform.com/250635924183055

Follow Up Friday!

During a freezing rain storm in the spring of this year, a kind hearted lady was driving home from work when she noticed something that made her do a double take and pull over. A German Shepherd puppy was abandoned on the side of the road locked in a crate. He was soaked through, cold, scared, lying on a wet moving blanket, and had some f***s in his fur. She could see nobody around.

The lady loaded the crate into her car (no easy feat by yourself!) and brought this baby home. She gave him a warm bath, some food, and helped him to feel safe while she began working to find someone who could take him.

This guy was impounded by canine control and an investigation was opened to try to discern how and why this poor 16 week old puppy had been left out like a bag of trash. In the meantime, he came to our kennel at Outrun for some recovery time.

After his pound time expired, a wonderful couple came to meet this boy, fell in LOVE, and named him Re*****on! Re*****on is now living with a loving family who see that his every need is met. We are so happy that this guy found his Happily Ever After.

Our Outrun team works tirelessly year round to help families like this unite. Watching the smiles on our adopters faces and the dogs go with their new families make all of the late nights, the poopy kennels, and the basic training worthwhile.

Hi! I'm Kate and I am what they call a "Pocket Bully" which isn't technically a recognized breed, but people keep calling me that so I'm going with it. A pocket bully is really a very small American Bulldog (I'm shorter than your knees but please don't call me an ankle biter!)

I'm a very affectionate dog who loves to be in the company of people. I am good on walks and I am very curious, so I am likely to sniff around and explore. I am a lovely girl who would love to find a home that will give me the love and attention I deserve.

Potential new owners should spend some time familiarizing themselves with the health risks associated with pocket bullies. I have what's called hip dysplasia, which is a permanent and hereditary condition, as well as mild degenerative joint disease in my knees. I don't have any bone-to-bone contact at this time and it's not very painful. I will need to be on joint supplements for the rest of my life (currently on Omegas added on top of my kibble) and I may need pain management as I get older but for now, I'm as comfy as can be without a home.

Here are a few quick things about me:
- I get along well with dogs, people, and cats.
- I am very low energy.
- 1.5 years old and about 50lbs
- I am crate trained
- I am spayed, chipped, and am up to date on my vaccinations.

Teamwork makes the dreamwork!

Last week we said ‘so long’ to two beautiful girls, Lilo and Lena. They went to Orillia SPCA in the hopes of finding their new families. These ladies came to stay at Outrun for some much needed training and rehabilitation following an investigation.

Over the last few months, Lilo and Lena both participated in our group training classes to hone their socialization skills. We will miss these two smiling girls but they deserve their own homes and will make a valuable addition to a family.

One of the primary objectives of Outrun Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation is to help animals in need and that includes when pound dogs, other shelters, and rescues are in need of assistance. Our team works with several organizations to provide animals with training, rehabilitation and behaviour modification.

Outrun does public adoptions, however our focus has always been on the underprivileged animals and those most in need. Our irreplaceable team members work hard behind the scenes to help those who can’t help themselves.

If you are interested in adopting either of these ladies, please reach out to Orillia SPCA.
