🏠Keep Their Home Smoke-Free & Scent-Free🐰
Bunnies have incredibly delicate respiratory systems and a sense of smell that’s far stronger than ours, around 100 million scent receptors compared to a human’s 5–6 million. This means they are much more sensitive to smoke and scents, even when we may not notice them ourselves.
Smoking (to***co, cannabis, va**ng, other drugs) and home scent products (essential oils, plug-ins, candles, diffusers, air fresheners) can cause serious respiratory harm when inhaled. The tiny particles and chemicals linger in the air and enter delicate bunny lungs, where they cause irritation and sometimes long-term damage.
But the risk doesn’t end there. These particles and oils can also land on a bunny’s fur. When grooming, they ingest those substances, leading to additional health issues. What seems like a “mild scent” to us can be completely overpowering to a bunny leaving them distressed, uncomfortable, and at risk for health complications.
Just because you don’t see coughing, wheezing, or obvious signs doesn’t mean the harm isn’t happening. Bunnies can’t tell us when their breathing feels heavy, their nose is burning, or they are feeling overwhelmed.
The best way to protect your bunny is simple: keep their home smoke-free and scent-free. Fresh hay, leafy greens (and some occasional banana!) are the only scents they need. 🌱💚
