💔❤️‍🩹❤️

A heartbreaking reminder as temperatures rise: a dog in our community died last night after going for a lengthy walk in the sun yesterday.

Heat stroke can happen faster than many people realize, even on days that don't seem excessively hot. To keep pets safe:

• Walk early in the morning or later in the evening.
• Bring water and take frequent breaks.
• Avoid strenuous exercise in warm weather.
• Never leave pets in a parked vehicle.
• Remember that pavement can burn paws and radiate heat.

Signs of heat stroke include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, weakness, vomiting, disorientation, collapse, or seizures.

If you suspect heat stroke:
• Move your pet to a cool, shaded area immediately. Ideally, have a fan pointed at them.
• Offer cool water, but do not force them to drink.
• Place your pet in a cool bath or shower but avoid submerging their head. Avoid covering them with wet towels as this can “over-cool” them.
• Seek emergency veterinary care immediately.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency. When in doubt, call a veterinarian right away.

Volunteer Help Needed🐾

-We could really use some help with daily feeding and cleaning chores at our intake barn in Duncan. This job can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours, depending on how many cats we have in our care. We need someone who is reliable, independent, and can commit to one day a week, or more. It would also be great to have a backup person who can fill in occasionally when a regular is away. Cleaning and feeding are both part of the job and is for adults only.
If this interests you please come meet us at a bottle drive. Our intake barn is on private property and is not open to the public so I'm sure you'll understand why we need to meet people before inviting them there.
(Experience with feral cats would be a bonus)

-We also need help with fundraisers. There are several ideas brewing but we really need some more people to help make them happen.

-We have some very simple sewing projects that we would love to have done. Sometimes we'll get blankets donated that are too big to use as is and we would like them cut down to size and sewn in layers to make carrier pads for the comfort of our cats during transport. These do not need to be perfect so begginer sewers are welcome!

Please send us a message or email if you would like to help us help the cats. [email protected]

🐾💘Summer is basically fully booked unless I can accommodate some short stays or pop-ins.

Thank you friends for the love and support!

I am planning as far ahead as 2027! If you have winter holidays, I am now reserving dates for November-December and beginning of the new year.
