Two wonderful ponies located in Kamloops, BC.

Ziggy is an 8yo, 14.1hh welsh cross. (Has the larger snip in middle of muzzle) She is a pleasure to have in the barn but is sadly outgrown. She has competed in the hunters and jumpers and does it all! Took her current rider from 2’ hunters up to the .85m jumpers. She is not spooky and likes to get to the other side of the jump. Chip, long, just right-she’s seen it all. Has done some cross country and is confident over logs, ditches, banks and water. Has been to local and rated shows. She was pony jumper champion at week 1 Milner 2025 along with many top placings at all the local shows. Videos available

Star is an 8 yo 14hh welsh cross. (Has small snip on right nostril) She has mostly been used as a school horse doing lessons for beginner kids and toddlers as young as 2yo. Very smooth trot so she is super for the little ones to ride. She’s very steady on the lunge line. She’s jumped up to 2’3” at shows and 2’6” at home. Cute style over the jumps. More whoa than go but needs a lunge the first day of shows. Has shown at some local shows and been to Thunderbird. Videos available

Make Them Carry Their Saddle
A father of a darling girl and I were talking last week and he said that he wanted his daughter to ride more and not have to do the work part of the catching, grooming, and saddling. I smiled as I explained.
Riding horses is a combination of strength, timing, and balance. Kids in this country are physically weak (unless they are actively involved with weight training and physical conditioning 4+ times a week.)
When you walk out to the field, you are clearing your stress from being under fluorescent lights all day; feeling the sun soak into your bones. As your body moves on uneven surfaces, it strengthens your legs and core.
When you groom your horse (especially currying), you are toning your arms and stabilizing your core.
When you carry your saddle, your arms, chest, and back are doing isolated strengthening work.
Being near horses, calms and makes you tune into the splendor of these empathetic animals.
When you ride at a posting trot, it’s equivalent to a slow jog calorie burn wise.
After a lesson, the riders are physically tired and mentally quiet and balanced.
Horses feel your heart beat and mirror your emotions back.
Riding large and somewhat unpredictable animals makes you resilient and pushes your expectations.
Working with horses is so much more than learning how to ride.
So parents, make your children carry their saddles. Don’t do the hard parts for them, as long term it actually hurts them. To advance with their riding, they must get stronger. You can help by doing the high parts.
I love having you all at the farm, and am so grateful to get to share these fascinating animals with you.

What an amazing week we had at Vernon District Riding Club! Thank you to all the amazing staff and volunteers who helped make the show possible!!

I don’t even know where to begin…. EVERY one of the 9 horses that we brought to the show was either champion or reserve champion in at least one of their divisions!! Here are the highlights
👯‍♀️ Wendy and Nancy Johnson made their leadline debut and both got first place ribbons 😉
🎉 Abby and Katy Fath won 9 of 11 classes including both Micro medal classes and a 2nd in the Hunter derby! Champion in the Modified Ch/Ad 2’9” hunters
🍪 Cookie Monster and Morgan Tondevold Reserve Champion in the Jr/Am .85m jumpers with some pretty slick turns in their speed and jump off classes!
🦄 Viola and Blayke Tommasini were Reserve Champion in a very competitive Cross pole division that had 12 horses in it! And it was Blayke’s first show ever! So proud of her hard work to get herself in the show ring. I don’t think there is any turning back now!
🤩 Ezra and Johanie Demers in their 2nd show together and 1st show in the jumper ring were Reserve Champion in BOTH the .70m and .75m jumpers!
😇 Goldfinch and Jane Mastin were Champion in the Pre Child/Adult hunters!
🦸🏻‍♂️super hero Cosmo (at 19 years old) and Gina Le Bel were 4th in the Hunter derby, reserve champion in the 1.0m jumpers and by default because they were the only one entered in it, they won the mini medal. We wish others would have competed in the class but we are happy they still allowed Gina to jump the course. And she laid down 2 beautiful trips
🤘🏼Viggo had two riders at the show. Elizabeth showed him at 1.10m and they had great rounds. Only ones in the division so champion by default but we are happy to get great experience over nice courses! Sandra Marbry rode him in a show for the first time and had beautiful rounds at .85m and finished 2nd overall in the micro medal
⭐️ Wish Upon A Star and Morgan Tondevold were Reserve Champion in the short stirrup pony hunters
🫶🏼 Calista and Karin Johnson were Reserve Champion in the .90m Open jumpers

I have a client who rides dressage but dabbles in cross training and takes lessons with me doing poles and small jumps. But with a jump like this I think the time has come Jesse Fountain for you to lose the dressage saddle for a jump saddle!! 😉
