After getting 2 female California Quail for my male, I was excited for breeding season this year.

But I only got 5 eggs (so far at least). And of the 5 only 1 hatched (so far). After 2 days in brooder I removed this little arorable cutie. Poor thing all alone so trying to spend as much time with as I can. Hopefully he makes it through the night in it's brooder! The 1st few days are always tough and go with quail hatchlings.
Really hope it makes it and is female! Stay tuned...

I was wondering why the pigeons always bath at the same time so I asked AI:

"Evolutionary Safety Triggers: In the wild, bathing is the most dangerous event of a bird's day because wet feathers make escaping predators much harder. Evolution has taught them that bathing completely alone is a death sentence. Even though your aviary is safe, their instincts dictate that they must only lower their guard and get wet if they have the protection of the crowd."

Makes sense! ;)
