Willow is a rough coated Jack Russell I took her short for an easier to maintain coat. Ideally, this coat type is hand stripped to keep its wire texture, but clipping is sometimes chosen for practicality.

Over time, regular clipping can soften the coat and change its texture, but it isn’t harmful to Willow’s health. Unlike true double-coated breeds where shaving can affect coat function.

This sweet girl isn’t a fan of having her head dried, so I work with her and just do what I can. She’s a very anxious pup, so her grooms are always taken nice and slow to keep things as stress free as possible. With such a thick, dense coat, maintenance can be a challenge but she still turned out pretty cute💗🐾

Cali came in for her second puppy intro today 💛 She was getting a little too warm, so we did a haircut just to keep her comfortable. We kept it short and sweet for her, and she handled it like such a good girl, she turned out pretty cute too🐾💗

Pablo left feeling a few pounds lighter after his deshed today 🐾✨ So much loose undercoat gone and way more comfortable!

Double coated dogs don’t need to be shaved to stay cool. Their coat is designed to regulate temperature year-round, keeping them protected from heat, cold, sun, and irritation.
Shaving a double coat (when it’s not medically necessary) removes that natural protection and can lead to:
• sunburn risk
• coat damage or uneven regrowth
• loss of proper insulation
A proper deshed + regular brushing is what actually keeps them comfortable during coat blow season..not clippers.
If a shave is ever recommended, it should only be for a medical reason and guided by a vet.
