Our friends at Poquito Loco are preparing to close for the winter… stop in before August 31st to get some great food!! You won’t regret it!

As hard as it is to believe, August 31st will be our final day for the summer season. Our plan is to close for the winter and set up again for next summer.

We want to make sure no one misses the chance to stop in, enjoy a favourite meal, say goodbye for now, and share a few more memories with us before we close our doors.

What started as a restaurant became so much more because of you — our customers, friends, families and incredible staff. You helped make this place what it is, and we will be forever grateful.

So if you’ve been thinking, “I have to get in there one more time…” — this is your reminder. ❤️

Our final day is August 31st.

Come see us, bring your favourite people, order your favourite dish, and help us make these last few weeks ones we’ll never forget.

UPDATE for all of our Prettypaws friends & family…

Until further notice our BANCROFT location will be closed on Tuesdays. This is because Tuesday was historically Chris’s day working in Bancroft and following two massive and scary hemorrhages Chris is still unable to work. The hope is with intense rehab, physiotherapy, and nerve assessments that Chris may get back full use of his left leg and be able to run the shop on his own again… but for now, for safety sake, the shop needs to close one day a week. If he were to fall in the shop alone it could be a very dangerous situation for all involved.

Chris is improving, albeit slowly. Thank you to all of our clients who have been understanding and gracious with cancellations, appointment changes, and long wait times.

The ⭐️GOOD NEWS⭐️ is that we have been able to secure a second groomer named Dana and she is a solid skilled groomer, wonderful with the dogs, gentle with all dogs but especially senior and nervous dogs… and she is an extremely hard worker dedicated to helping get our backlog cleaned up.

Hello Prettypaws Family!

Chris here, and I am writing today to ask for some kindness while Emily and I have to adjust my busy schedule due to a medical crisis that came very suddenly.

It is very rare for me to share my personal medical info on the business page, but I feel like our clients deserve an explanation for all of schedule changes. I know that summer is busy and you rely on me to be ready and waiting for your visit.

On July 6th Emily called 9-1-1 and doctors discovered that as a result of lifelong anticoagulation with Coumadin I had developed an extremely severe retroperitoneal bleed on my left side. This bleed crashed my hemoglobin, left me with tachycardia in excess of 160bpm, extreme hypotension, a high fever, and very, very scared.

I was rushed to hospital at PRHC where I was admitted out of the ambulance into the ER Trauma department where I received life saving stabilizing care — seven blood transfusions over the course of that night were administered and by noon the next day my hemoglobin had finally reached a level that was compatible with sustaining life. Intensive care stabilized me, a team of incredible doctors and nurses were assigned, and since then I have remained in the cardiac ward at PRHC slowly recovering.

As a result of this bleed an incredible amount of pressure was placed on the nerves in my pelvis that control the movement of my left leg — I have been advised that it could be weeks-to-months before I regain full independent movement of my left leg and currently I am unable to walk on my own without the assistance of a mobility walker. I am unable to climb stairs, turn corners, or lift my left leg without physically picking it up using my hands.

Having been here for ten days now I am getting the hang of hospital life, and we are hopeful that I will be able to come home in the next 6-8 days provided I get a little bit more of my independent mobility back.

All of this to say: please be kind to Emily, please be patient with my staff. Hannah and Kirsi are covering as many of my appointments as humanly possible.

This kiddo came in today for a bath and brush. His coat was in perfect condition, he happily stood through a marathon drying session, and he left as the floofiest fluff that ever puffed.

But coats like this don’t happen by accident. They take years of trust, consistency, and a whole lot of brushing. Fluffy dogs are beautiful, but they’re also expensive, time-consuming, and a lot of work. We love them, but my back definitely feels it!

Thinking about a fluffy floof of your own? Be honest with yourself: can you commit to daily brushing and regular grooming appointments? If you can, the results speak for themselves.

Hair will grow until it’s cut, and we’re always happy to help you reach your coat goals.

Molly doesn’t love the blow dryer put provided she has a happy hoodie she relaxes a bit and says… “get it over with!”

Molly has been coming twice a week for medicated baths prescribed by her vet and her skin is healing and looks so much better! She also is leaning to love the process. Is now happy to be handled and have her bath… routine is a dogs best friend!

Remember: the skin has the largest surface area of all organs… we need to make sure it stays properly clean, balanced, and healthy! 🐶🐾

What all happens at a grooming appointment?

A lot!

First we assess your pets skin and coat, identify and remove any matting and identify any existing lumps, bumps, wounds or skin issues.

During the bath your groomer selects a shampoo that is appropriate for the condition and needs of your pets’ skin and coat. When we are shampooing your dog they are bathed 2-3 times or as many times as necessary in order to provider properly clean skin and coat.

Next your groomer selects a conditioner that suits the needs of the pets skin and coat and/or that will help provide the best blow-dry outcome.

Then we move over to the drying table where the dog is thoroughly towel dried and given scritches all over, and then gently introduced to our blowdryers and thoroughly dried, brushed, combed and prepared for their haircut.

Most of our clients find it easiest to keep an approximately two month grooming frequency to maintain their pets coat in good condition, but also to help keep the pet comfortable and familiar with this very necessary process to reduce stress/fear.
