🐾 The Truth About Grooming Huskies 🐾
Huskies are one of the most beautiful and unique breeds we see in the salon, but their coats require special care to keep them healthy and happy.
✨ Why Regular Grooming Matters
A Husky’s thick double coat is designed to protect them year-round. The soft undercoat insulates in winter and keeps them cool in summer by trapping air. Without proper upkeep, that undercoat can become impacted, causing:
• Overheating in warmer months
• Skin irritation and “hot spots”
• Shedding overload in your home
• Discomfort and matting close to the skin
🚫 Why You Should Never Shave a Husky
Shaving may seem like a quick fix for shedding or summer heat, but it actually damages their coat for life.
• Can cause the coat to grow back patchy and uneven
• Removes their natural sun protection, leading to sunburn and skin cancer risk
• Eliminates their ability to regulate temperature naturally
💡 The Truth About Shedding
There’s no such thing as a “deshedding shampoo” and it’s impossible to stop a Husky from shedding altogether. With the right grooming schedule and tools however, you can reduce it significantly!
✅ The Best Care for Your Husky
• Professional grooming 4 times a year to maintain coat health (overbathing strips their natural oils)
• Brush at home weekly — more often during seasonal coat blows
• Use the correct tools for a double coat — undercoat rakes and slicker brushes are great options. Throw away that “furminator” as it strips and damages their coat.
