A Home for Hooves Farm Sanctuary

A Home for Hooves Farm Sanctuary We provide a forever home for rescued farm animals who have been abandoned, seized by the S.P.C.A., or surrendered due to various circumstances.

We are a volunteer run, registered Charity organisation in Duncan BC, that offers a forever home for rescued farm animals who are abandoned, seized by the S.P.C.A., or surrendered due to various circumstances. Our Sanctuary was founded in September 2017 and we are the first and only Farm Sanctuary in Canada to be Accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries. We currently care for near

ly 200 residents including pigs, goats, sheep, cattle, horses, donkeys, chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, peafowl, dogs, guinea pigs, and cats. We ensure all our animals are provided with the best quality care and a safe home where they are able to live out their natural lives. We aim to advance education by providing workshops, seminars, classes, and presentations on animal practices, rescue, and care. In early 2019 we began an adoption and foster program to place healthy and well-suited, non-farm animals in safe and loving homes. Our Sanctuary provides a forever home for farm animals who are older, are difficult to place, have diverse needs, have behavioural issues, or require long term medical intervention. Our volunteers help us with the everyday care of the animals, social media, graphic design, fundraising, newsletter writing, and event planning, and ensure the animals are well cared for and our organisation runs smoothly. We would also like to acknowledge that our Sanctuary is located within the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territory of the Quw'utsun Nation, near the traditional village of Ts'alha'um.

Animal Spotlight: Jenny became a part of the sanctuary in 2021. She loves food and will yell at you in donkey if she’s hungry. She had a neglectful upbringing, causing her to lose vision in her right eye due to unknown trauma. In 2024, she had her eye removed, and we’re relieved that she no longer experiences pain. While Jenny may appear shy, she confidently holds top spot in the donkey herd!

Ragnar may have a distinguished face, but don’t let that fool you—he’s a total goofball. Known for grabbing mouthfuls of hair, enthusiastically licking faces, and even occasionally peeing on his human caregivers, Ragnar keeps everyone on their toes!

Gracie joined our family about seven years ago after being listed online for free, with the heartbreaking risk of being shot because her previous owners considered her a nuisance. Since then, she’s shown us just how special she is—full of personality, a big fan of belly rubs, and happiest when she’s curled up for a cozy nap in her straw bed.

Yesterday, an incredible team from FYidoctors in Duncan spent four hours hauling and stacking hay—and they did it all without a single complaint. Moving 50-pound bales in the summer heat is no small task, but this group rolled up their sleeves and got to work. We’re so grateful for their dedication, hard work, and generous support!

This morning, Dr. Watson examined Petal and Plume to evaluate their neck deformities. The unusual shape of their necks could be the result of a nutritional deficiency, genetic factors, poor living conditions, or a viral infection. Unfortunately, we don’t have any background information about where they were hatched, so determining the exact cause is largely speculative at this point.

For now, we’re focusing on supportive care, which includes proper nutrition, vitamin supplements, physical exercise, stretching routines, and neck braces. Thankfully, both Petal and Plume have relatively good mobility and are able to eat and drink on their own.

It’s uncertain whether their condition will improve over time, but they’re in good hands. We’re committed to doing everything we can to support their well-being and enhance their quality of life.

Two peas in a pod—that’s the perfect way to describe this sweet pair.

Bastian came into our care a few months ago after being bullied by his colony, which sadly left him with multiple injuries, including permanent damage to one of his ears. Sunny has been with us for about six months, arriving from Amy’s Bunny Barn after struggling to find an adoptive home. Before that, she endured a heartbreaking neglect situation, living in extremely poor conditions.

Recently, we bonded Bastian and Sunny—and we couldn’t be happier with how well they’ve connected. They’re now absolutely inseparable. It’s clear they needed each other more than we ever imagined.

Bonded companionship is vital for rabbits, as they are naturally social animals. Living with another bunny greatly supports their mental and physical well-being—and these two are a beautiful example of just how powerful that bond can be.
