HALLOWEEN PET SAFETY TIP #5 : Have a plan in place for answering the door without the use of a doorbell or loud knocking - sit near a window that allows for watching the pathway taken by trick-or-treaters or, try sitting outside to greet guests and hand out treats. Keep your pets in a secure interior room with the door closed. Provide their favourite toys, cozy blanket and use a white noise machine or soft music to muffle outside sounds.

The East Kootenay Veterinary Group collaborates to provide shared on-call emergency veterinary services over evenings and weekends. While not all participating clinics are located within the immediate (Cranbrook) vicinity, our teams work together to ensure access to emergency veterinary care 365 days a year for all EKVG area residents.
In an effort to assist with your personal emergency preparedness and planning, we will be posting the upcoming weekend's Emergency On Call Clinic every Friday afternoon. We appreciate your understanding, as travel may be required depending which clinic is on call.
Please be assured that every effort is made to provide timely and compassionate care for your pets when it matters most.
If you are experiencing an after hours emergency with your pet, please call the number of your regular Veterinary Services Provider and follow the prompts to get in touch with the AHL system for triage. Our number is 250-426-8517.

HALLOWEEN PET SAFETY TIP #4 : Keep candy stashed away leading up to the big day and be sure it's out of your pets' reach when the time comes for trick-or-treaters to be arriving. Chocolate is highly toxic to pets. Xylitol, an artificial sweetener used in sugar free gum and candy is deadly. even non-toxic sugary treats can cause severe stomach upset or pancreatitis.

HALLOWEEN PET SAFETY TIP #3 : Prioritize comfortable, safe costumes. Avoid outfits with small buttons, cords or chewable decorations that can become choking hazards or cause intestinal blockage. A festive Halloween themed bandana is a safe and comfortable alternative.
