This is a lovely visual explanation of why we dont like to shave double coats! To add to it, even trimming can cause issues, as when the profuse undercoat (which grows faster than guard hairs) is the same length as the guard hair it tangles around the guard hairs and can damage them within the follicle causing poor coat growth and undercoat overload.

Trimming double coats right before going into a winter coat is the most dangerous time. With a good deshed before hand and when the undercoat has come out for the summer it is less damaging.

I will not shave a double coated dog's jacket because i dont want to hurt their coat and skin. A good deshed allows for proper airflow to the skin and the double coat insulates against both the cold and the heat. Tummy, feet, and pants to help for sanitary reasons but never a jacket.

Now accepting new small dog clientele! For some time I have been closed to new clients as my schedule was so busy. As I lost clients who moved away or passed on, I was not replacing them as my husband was working more so I could take some time to catch up on some household maintenance and my volunteer positions.

Now he is back to part time I need to add a day back into my schedule. That means I have spaces to add a few new clients!

Small dogs only, please. I have been grooming for over 25 years now and I would like to do it for 25 more! I need to take care of my joints by limiting my larger clientele. 💕🐾💕

If you have been considering booking now is your time! I have a few spaces left this week and then its quite busy for a while. My schedule hasn't evened out since my time off 😅 I could possibly take on a couple new small dogs if anyone has a friend looking for a groomer!

Eek! It's getting real, off to Coombs with this assorted cast of characters for 4H in 2 weeks, and then only one day to work before leaving for Alberta and the Nationals!!!

I have a handful of openings next week, and one the week after. Maybe one or two to squeeze in end of August, and then that's it until September! Don't miss out! Book now if you might need me within the next 6 weeks 😬😅
.Also, i am still accepting donations of refundable bottles and cans to help with my trip expense fund, and, you are all cordially invited to come see us and our 4H animals at the local fair August 22,23,24 at the exhibition grounds in courtenay :)

We will soon be off to Nationals in Alberta! This may be our last chance to be competitive at the national level, as Opal is turning 12 in the fall and I expect we will lose the venue to back east for the next couple years.

If anyone has any bottles to donate, I am doing a bottle drive! Also all my tips will go towards our trip :)

Between volunteering with 4H for three fairs with my daughter, and this trip to Alberta, funds are a little tight. I would love to help make space in your shed by returning your bottles ;)

Also, i have very few appointments left before I go! Don't wait if you want to see me before September! 😅🫣

🤔 ..Perhaps I should auction my last August appointments to the highest bidder! 🤭😆

August is almost fully booked! 🫣😅 I have very limited appointments because of my volunteer hours with 4H and my trip to Alberta to compete in the dog agility Nationals!

July is getting a bit crowded, but tomorrow I have a gap, so it's a great time to call if you were considering it!

Regionals went very well! Lisa and Opal placed second in their category this year, and ribboned in every class 💕🐾💕

Now they are headed to nationals in Alberta! Fundraising begins, as this will be a pretty expensive trip with extra days off for travel 😅 but it could be a few years before nationals will return to this side of the country and Opal is 11, so this might be our last chance to be competitive at a national level so it's very important to make the trip!

All tips will be saved for expenses, and if you have any spare returnable bottles or cans i would be happy to pick up and return for the deposit!

Also, heads up that August will be a busy month between 4H and the Nationals, so prebooking will be very important for the next few months 😅

Next month I will be taking a long weekend to travel to the dog agility Regional Championships with the hope of qualifying to go to Nationals in Alberta, in August! :) so please do make sure to prebook your appointments, my schedule is already getting a bit crazy!

Also, I am fundraising for my trip (one curse of self employment is no holiday pay.. what a mean boss I am 🫣😅)

If you have any refundable bottles or cans I have been collecting donations, and I will also be putting my tips towards the event :)

I think I might put together a thank you basket for a draw for one lucky client who donates again, it seems to be becoming a tradition! 🤔😁
