This is why we need to spay and neuter our pets and help get stray cats in our neighbourhoods spayed and neutered, too.
Five kittens, only days old, were outside in the cold last night. Without someone noticing them and finding help, they might not have survived.
Getting this one litter and their mom to safety involved four rescuers, two homeowners, hours of work continuing past 4 a.m., and many more people helping online.
Thank you to the person who kept contacting organizations until they found help, and our previous adopter who saw the posts and drove over to search despite the slim odds. They helped locate the family within about 45 minutes, then stayed with us until nearly 1 a.m. to help catch mom.
Thank you to the neighbour who answered their knock, found the kittens beneath the bay window and carefully retrieved all five.
We’re grateful for the overnight help from Home at Last Rescue, which will be taking the family into care, and from an experienced trapper who volunteers with Annex Cat Rescue and brought a drop trap to help catch mom.
The family is now safe together, and veterinary assessments are underway. Thank you to everyone who shared posts and helped make this possible. ❤️
It took all of these people to help one family. We can’t count on every litter born outdoors being found in time.
With winter approaching, please reach out about stray cats visiting your yard. We may not always have room to take them into care, but we’re happy to help you navigate the next steps, from checking for an owner to exploring spay/neuter options and finding a rescue that may be able to help.
We know how overwhelming it can be to keep calling and hearing “no.” You’re welcome to contact us, even if you’re unsure where to start.
