🐰 Bunny Care Tip: Molting Season — AKA How to Become the Mean Lady

Have you noticed some of the Binkytown buns looking extra fluffy lately?

No, they haven't suddenly doubled in size. 😂

It's molting season.

And around here, that means everyone gets a little extra attention from their least-favourite employee: me.

Some of the buns — looking at you, Mochi & Misha 👀 — are molting heavily enough that they're getting brushed every day or every other day just to keep up.

I'll admit, I tried to avoid becoming The Mean Lady.

At first, I wandered around their pens plucking loose tufts of fur whenever I spotted them because I know how much some of them dislike being brushed.

Unfortunately, with this many fluffy little overachievers, that turned into a full-time career. 😅

So... the brush came out.

During a heavy molt, rabbits can swallow much more fur while grooming themselves. Regular grooming helps remove that loose fur before they ingest it, which is especially important while we're also keeping a close eye on hay intake, hydration, appetite and poops.

Do the buns appreciate this dedication to their wellbeing?

Absolutely not.

Mochi generally finishes his grooming appointment by hopping away and delivering several very deliberate thumps.

Apparently Mochi & Misha aren't the only ones hosting parties at Binkytown anymore. 😂

Spock has officially submitted his application to the VIB Club — Very Important Buns — and has been regularly throwing a few parties of his own.

And if that wasn't enough personality for one little bun…

After I tidied his suite today, Spock marched over to his litter box, selected a single piece of hay, carried it to the front of his pen and proceeded to eat it while staring directly at me.

I genuinely can't decide whether this was:

⭐ “Thank you for cleaning my room.”

or

⭐ “I had everything exactly where I wanted it.”

Judging by the stare… I'm leaning toward the second one. 😅

Every little bit of Spock's personality that comes out feels extra special considering how frightened he once was. Apparently underneath all that fear was a tiny black bunny with a LOT of opinions. 🖤

And if you've been thinking your life could use a little more judgement… Spock is still looking for his very special forever home. 😂

🐰 Meet Your Match Monday: Mochi & Misha

Meet Mochi & Misha — a bonded pair with plenty of personality and a whole lot of heart. 💚

Mochi is curious, expressive, and definitely has some bunitude. He has no problem letting you know when he is displeased with something, but he has also been opening up more and showing a softer side as he becomes comfortable.

Misha is more reserved, but she has been making lovely progress too. When they first arrived at Binkytown, neither Mochi nor Misha was very interested in being touched. Now, both have started allowing gentle pets on their heads — especially when dinner is involved. 🥕😂

They are a sweet, food-loving pair who would thrive in a patient home that appreciates their individual personalities, gives them time to build trust, and lets them continue blossoming at their own pace.

They are both spayed/neutered and are currently fostered near Saskatoon.

A little Spock update 🐰❤️

Spock has been busy testing out new levels of confidence… and new ways to make a mess.

First, a tiny but very big milestone: Spock took an apple chip from my hand. Just once so far, and only because I very politely pretended not to look at him. 😂

No photo. No video. Just me trying to act completely casual while internally celebrating.

Spock has also become the first bun at Binkytown to get his very own dig box, and so far his reviews are in:

Shredded paper + aspen bedding dig box: 10/10 Cut paper towel roll dig box: 2/10

He tried the paper towel roll version, but apparently it did not meet Spock’s very specific enrichment standards.

He is also loving the third level of his loft and has made it very clear that making a mess up there is part of the experience.

For a bunny who once spent so much time hiding, it makes my heart so happy to see him exploring, choosing favourites, making opinions known, and slowly becoming more comfortable in his space.

Progress looks different for every bunny.

For Spock, today it looks like one brave apple chip, one highly rated dig box, and one very messy rooftop. 🐰❤️
