GROUP DOG TRAINING CLASSES ARE BACK at Seaway Veterinary Clinic!

Thursday September 3rd until September 24th.

Rockin’ Reactivity: Thursdays 5:15–6:15 PM
For dogs who bark, lunge, pull or struggle around other dogs. We’ll focus on calmer responses, coping skills and building confidence on walks.

Obedience & Life Skills: Thursdays 6:30–7:30 PM
For pups looking to improve their everyday skills and confidence in a new environment, with fun, predictable games and vet-prep exercises!

$150 / 4-week course, please inquire about space before sending the deposit! Once we confirm there’s a spot that’s a good fit for your pup, we’ll send you the deposit information.

We go to a lot of effort to make every visit as positive and stress free as possible for your pets but there are also a few things you can practice at home to make their next vet visit even easier!

1. Teach a sit-stay for the scale:
Some dogs aren’t big fans of stepping onto the scale but if they know how to sit and stay, we can get that weight quickly and move on to the fun stuff! Of course, there’s always a cookie waiting for them afterwards.
2. Use a pattern game in the waiting room:
The waiting room can be a lot, people coming in, dogs coming in, other animals, strange sounds and smells… all while your dog is expected to just sit there. Try a simple pattern game like Ping-Pong: offer a treat on one side, wait for them to look back at you, then offer a treat on the other side and repeat! This predictable little game can help keep their brain focused and their emotions regulated.
3. Practice muzzle training:
Every dog can benefit from learning to comfortably wear a muzzle! You never know when your dog may be injured, experiencing pain or need a procedure where a muzzle is necessary. If they’ve already learned that a muzzle is nothing scary and can even predict good things, it makes those unexpected situations so much easier and less stressful for everyone.

Remember, you don’t have to wait until your dog is stressed at the vet to start practicing these skills! A little preparation at home can go a long way!

Today we’re saying a bittersweet goodbye to our wonderful J-Lyn as she heads off to school to become a vet tech! Her kindness, patience and genuine care for every patient (and their people!) have made such an impact on all of us. Personally, I’m going to miss how open and willing she was to being in my silly videos!

While we’re definitely sad to see her go, we’re excited to watch her take this next step toward an amazing career in veterinary medicine. We know she’s going to be an incredible vet tech and that her future patients will be very lucky to have her.
Good luck at vet tech school, J-Lyn! We’ll miss you but we’re cheering you on every step of the way! ❤️🩺✨

In all seriousness… Maintaining a healthy body condition can help support joint health, mobility, energy levels and overall quality of life.

If your pup needs to lose a few pounds, don’t worry… they don’t need to know. Small adjustments to portions, treats, exercise and enrichment can make a big difference over time.
Your dog may not appreciate the diet… but their body will!
