Have you ever noticed how dogs are so good at completely letting go? 🐾
When there’s nothing happening, they don’t worry about tomorrow or think about everything still left to do. They simply relax, enjoy the moment, and recharge.

This weekend, take a little inspiration from our furry friends. Make time to pause, unwind, and care for yourself. Your time off isn’t just for cleaning, cooking, and preparing for the week ahead. It’s also for your own well-being.
And remember, even if your days off aren’t on the weekend, the same applies. Find those moments that allow you to rest and reset.

Life can be stressful, so protecting your mental health matters. Take care of yourself, and you’ll be better able to care for everything you love, including your pets. ❤️

So take a leaf out of their book… relax, recharge, and enjoy the simple moments.

When you bring a puppy home, it’s an exciting time. They are adorable, playful, and we naturally want to do everything right. We make sure they have their vaccinations, veterinary care, training, interaction, and lots of love. 🐾

🐕But life changes. Circumstances change. People move, finances become difficult, families grow, and unexpected challenges happen. The question we need to ask ourselves is: what happens then?

🐕This is why we need to rethink how we see dogs. They are not something to be replaced when life becomes inconvenient. They are a commitment, a responsibility, and a life that depends on us.

✅The Animal Control Centre & Animal Shelters see the heartbreaking reality every day. We see overcrowding, limited kennel space, and the difficult decisions that come when there are more dogs needing help than there is room available.

Many shelters are doing everything they can to save as many dogs as possible, but their resources are not unlimited.

Before bringing a dog into your life, please think carefully about the commitment. Understand what is involved, prepare for the responsibilities, and remember that support is available. If you are struggling, reach out for help. Sometimes finding a solution can help keep a dog where they belong.

A dog’s love and loyalty are for life. Let’s make sure our commitment is too. ❤️

Children and dogs can form the most wonderful friendships, but it is our responsibility as adults to guide them safely. 🐾🐕

A few important reminders for parents:

• Young children should always be supervised by an adult when walking or playing with a dog.

• Dogs should always be kept on a lead when out walking, especially when a child is involved.

• Never encourage a dog to chase chickens, cats, or other animals. It may seem like a fun game, but it can quickly develop into unsafe behaviour, with the dog running into roads or developing a stronger prey drive.

• As children grow older, they can gradually take on more responsibility with caring for their dog, while learning respect, kindness, and safe handling.

Teaching children compassion and responsibility around animals helps create safer, happier relationships between children and dogs.

Separation anxiety in dogs is a response to genuine emotional distress and not about “acting out”. Join Dr. Keira Moore (Pet Project Dog Training) and Ken Ramirez on Thursday, 6/4 at 1:00 pm (PT) as they explore what separation anxiety really looks like, what may contribute to it, and how you can support dogs struggling to cope when left alone.
