Prevention Can Save Lives. ❤️🐾

Daisy’s story could have ended very differently... She spent 10 days in hospital with tick paralysis.
Ten days of intensive care. Ten days of constant monitoring and treatment. Ten days where her family had to hope that she would come home.
Thankfully, Daisy made it. ❤️
But sadly, not every pet does.

Tick season is here in Queensland, and we are already seeing an increase in tick paralysis cases.

Tick paralysis is one of the hardest things for our team to see. Dogs and cats can become progressively weak and paralysed, struggle to breathe, and require constant monitoring and intensive nursing care. It takes a huge amount of time, medication, equipment and, most importantly, dedicated staff to give them the best chance of survival.

Ticks don't discriminate. Young or old. Big or small. Indoor or outdoor. By the time you notice something is wrong, your pet can already be critically unwell.

We know tick prevention is an ongoing cost. But when you compare prevention to the emotional and financial cost of treating tick paralysis, it is something worth prioritising.

Tick prevention for your pet can start from around $250 a year, depending on the type of prevention, species and size of your pet.

Treatment for tick paralysis can start from around $2,000, and can be significantly more depending on your pet's size, how severe their paralysis is, and how long they need hospital care.

But honestly, the cost isn't even the part that stays with us.
It's watching a family wait.
It's watching a dog or cat struggle to breathe.
It's watching our team work around the clock to give a patient every possible chance.
And it's the heartbreak of losing a patient when we know prevention can make such a difference.

Daisy was one of the lucky ones. She made it home. ❤️

But every year, we see dogs and cats who aren't so fortunate.

That's why we're sharing Daisy's story, not to scare or blame anyone, but to remind pet owners that tick paralysis is something we need to take seriously.

Because when it comes to tick paralysis, prevention really can save lives.

The reaction from the whole clinic when a client drops off chocolates 🍫😂
Jokes aside, we headed out to the farm to give these little cuties their routine health checks, and they scored a solid 10/10 for being the cutest patients. 🩺🦙💚

Meet Jeremy!🐐
Jeremy came in today for his castration. Before surgery, Derek thought it was only fair to explain exactly what was about to happen..
Judging by Jeremy's face, we're not sure he liked the treatment plan! 😂

Today, Floyd came to our clinic for a very important mission, to help save another dog's life through a blood donation. 💕🐾

We're incredibly grateful to Floyd and his wonderful owners for their kindness and generosity. Blood donors play a vital role in helping pets during emergencies, surgeries, and critical illnesses, and today's donation will make a real diference.

As a small token for our appreciation, Floyd received a Bravery Award and some flowers to celebrate his heroic effort! 🌺🏅

Please join us in thanking this handsome hero and his owner for helping another furry friend in need 💕🐶
