🌍 Kim’s Volunteer Adventure with Vets Beyond Borders 🐾✈️

“ Hi everyone, I’m back!

I’ve just returned from an incredible 8 day volunteer trip with Vets Beyond Borders, supporting LUNI Lombok, Indonesia in their TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate & Release) program.

During our time there, we treated 120 cats and 1 goat:
🐱 41 male and 47 female cats were sterilised
🐾 1 leg amputation, 1 eye enucleation, and 1 wound debridement
💉 96 cats vaccinated, 80+ wormed, and 16 treated for fleas

Working in a Muslim-based community brought some new (and barefoot!) experiences; no shoes indoors, even in surgery. With no motorised vehicles allowed on the island, we got around by horse and cart, bicycle, or on foot.

Outside of the clinic, I even found time to snorkel with turtles… and found Nemo! 🐢🐠🤿

The LUNI team and volunteer vets from the UK were absolutely amazing. I’m so grateful for the experience, and it’s great to be home. Feel free to stop me at work if you’d like to see some photos, I’ve got plenty!😻

🌏🐾 Safe travels, Nurse Kim! 🐾🌏

We’re sending our love and best wishes to our incredible Nurse Kim as she embarks on a volunteer mission with Vets Beyond Borders – an amazing animal welfare charity that supports projects in urgent need around the world. 💙

Kim is headed to Gili Trawangan, a small island off Lombok, where local organisation LUNI Lombok Indonesia is temporarily transforming a cat café into a makeshift vet hospital. 🏥🐱

Together with a team of volunteer vets and nurses, Kim will be helping run a week-long Trap, Health Check, Vaccinate, Sterilise & Release clinic focused on managing the island’s growing stray cat population. With no stray dogs present, the local cats are generally more accustomed to human interaction than those we might encounter in Australia. It will help make this important work a little smoother and ensure the cats receive the care they need.🐾

We can’t wait to hear all about Kim’s adventure and will share an update when she’s back!
