We are excited to have a new dental X-ray machine to help assess what is happening below the gumline, where many dental issues can hide.

A tooth may look normal on the surface, but dental X-rays allow our vets to check the tooth roots, surrounding bone and areas that cannot be properly assessed with a visual exam alone. This can help identify hidden disease, infection, damage or bone loss that may otherwise go unnoticed.

If your pet has bad breath, tartar build-up, red gums, difficulty chewing, or anything that does not seem quite right, Dental Month is the perfect time to book a check-up.

๐Ÿฃ Happy Easter from all of us at Forrestfield Vet Hospital! ๐Ÿพ

While the Easter Bunny is busy delivering sweet treats, we want to remind all our wonderful pet parents to keep the chocolate safely out of pawโ€™s reach! ๐ŸซโŒ

Chocolate might be delicious for us, but itโ€™s toxic for dogs. It contains theobromine, which dogs canโ€™t process properly. Even small amounts can make them unwell โ€” and the darker the chocolate, the more dangerous it is.

โš ๏ธ Signs of chocolate toxicity in dogs can include:
๐Ÿพ Vomiting or diarrhoea
๐Ÿพ Restlessness or hyperactivity
๐Ÿพ Increased heart rate
๐Ÿพ Tremors or seizures

If your pup manages to sneak a chocolate egg or two (theyโ€™re quicker than the Easter Bunny sometimes! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฅš), please contact us at Forrestfield Vet or your nearest emergency vet immediately โ€” early treatment is key.

Instead, why not treat your furry friends to some pet-safe goodies or an extra cuddle this Easter? ๐Ÿ’›

Have a safe and happy long weekend, and feel free to share your pets enjoying their non-chocolate Easter treats below! ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿพ Pyometra Awareness: Melodyโ€™s Story ๐Ÿพ

Meet Melody, a lovely Dalmatian who recently came to our hospital feeling quite unwell. After a thorough examination, our veterinary team diagnosed pyometra โ€” a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that can occur in unspayed female dogs.

Melody required urgent surgery to remove her infected uterus. Our team performed the procedure, and weโ€™re happy to report that Melody recovered very well and is now back home with her family doing great! โค๏ธ

What is a Pyometra?
Pyometra is a severe uterine infection that usually develops a few weeks to months after a heat cycle in unspayed female dogs.

โš ๏ธ Signs to watch for include:
โ€ข Lethargy
โ€ข Loss of appetite
โ€ข Increased drinking and urination
โ€ข Vomiting
โ€ข Vaginal discharge
โ€ข Swollen abdomen

Pyometra can progress quickly and become life-threatening, which is why early veterinary attention is critical.

โค๏ธ The good news:
Pyometra is preventable through spaying, and prompt treatment can save lives โ€” just like Melodyโ€™s.

Please join us in wishing Melody a continued happy and healthy recovery! ๐Ÿพ
