Hello to everyone in our lovely community!

Handsome man Duke here came in to our clinic for his castration and soon found himself helping our nurses on reception whilst he was recovering from his procedure.

Bird Flu Awareness: helping keep pets safe

With avian influenza in the news, there are some simple steps pet owners can take to help reduce the risk to dogs and cats.

If you see a sick or dead bird, please do not touch or move it. Keep pets and children away, record the location, and report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

If your pet has had contact with a sick or dead bird, or you are concerned about their health, please call the clinic for advice.

This July, Forrestfield Vet Hospital is supporting National Desexing Month by offering a 10% discount on eligible desexing surgery.

You may have seen recent news about a parvovirus outbreak affecting dogs.

Canine parvovirus, often called parvo, is a serious and highly contagious virus that can make dogs very unwell, especially puppies and dogs who are unvaccinated or overdue. In some cases, parvo can be life-threatening, so prevention and early veterinary care are very important.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴’𝘀 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲.

𝗔 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀:
• Keep unvaccinated puppies away from public dog areas until your vet advises it is safe
• Avoid contact with unwell dogs
• Clean up after your dog and practise good hygiene
• Be cautious in high dog-traffic areas such as parks, footpaths and shared spaces
• Check your dog’s vaccination status if you are unsure

𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲:
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea, sometimes with blood
• Lethargy or weakness
• Loss of appetite
• Dehydration
