🐶Puppy Development Group Class🐶

Our small group puppy development classes are designed to help puppies grow into confident, well-adjusted dogs. Through socialisation, structured play, and foundation skills like sit, drop, recall, and loose-lead walking, puppies learn how to appropriately interact with people, other dogs, and new environments. These early experiences build confidence, encourage good habits, and create a positive start to lifelong learning.

🐾 CLIENT WIN WEDNESDAY — RANDAL

Randal came to us with a challenge: reactivity around cars and trucks. 🚗🚚

Rather than jumping straight into working around his triggers, we focused on building the foundations that would help him succeed.

Our focus has been:
✔️ Building engagement
✔️ Developing clear communication
✔️ Finding what motivates him
✔️ Creating an effective reward system
✔️ Building more reliable obedience

Randal is a fast learner and already had a great foundation to work from.
Once we developed a communication system that made sense to him and worked out how to effectively use both toy and food rewards, we've seen a huge improvement in his ability to engage around his triggers.

He’s not just learning what not to do — he’s developing the skills and motivation to make better choices.
And that’s a win worth celebrating. 🐾
Great work, Randal!

🏡 LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT HOME FOR LUTHER 🐾

Through absolutely no fault of his own, one of our daycare dogs, Luther is looking for a loving new home.

Luther is a gorgeous young European Great Dane with a huge personality and an equally huge heart. He is still very much a big, goofy puppy — energetic, playful, clever and full of life.

❤️ About Luther:
• Good with other dogs and enjoys their company
• Loves being around people and being part of the family
• Currently attends dog daycare and does well there
• Clever and responds well to consistency, structure and ongoing training
• Young, energetic and still learning his manners
• Will need to be desexed
• Must have secure, high fencing as he can be an escape artist
• Needs plenty of exercise, attention and, most importantly, lots and lots of love

Luther is a big, strong young dog, so we are looking for someone who understands the needs of a giant breed and is prepared to continue putting time into his training and development.

This has been an incredibly difficult decision because Luther is very loved. Unfortunately, our current family circumstances mean we can no longer provide him with the environment he needs to thrive.

Finding the right home is far more important to us than finding a home quickly. We want his next home to be his forever home.

If you think you could offer Luther the loving, secure and committed home he deserves, please get in touch to have a chat and learn more about this beautiful boy. 🐾❤️

🐾 DOG DAY IS COMING TO WANGARATTA!

We’re excited to be part of Wangaratta’s very first DOG DAY — a FREE community event celebrating the incredible role dogs play in our lives and the positive impact they can have on our mental health and wellbeing.

The bond we share with our dogs can be incredibly meaningful. They give us companionship, connection and a reason to slow down, get outside and be present — all of which can contribute to our overall wellbeing. Dog Day gives us an opportunity to recognise and celebrate everything they do for us!

And while we’re celebrating everything our dogs bring to our lives, it’s also a great opportunity to think about what we can give back to them.

We’ll be hosting the Play & Engagement Hub, where you can discover why play is such an important part of your dog’s life.

Play isn’t just about having fun or keeping your dog entertained. It provides an outlet for natural behaviours and helps meet important biological needs, contributing to a happier, more fulfilled dog.

Play can also be a powerful way to build engagement, communication and connection with your dog — and when we understand what motivates our dogs, we can use that knowledge to make training more rewarding too.

Come along, bring your dog and come and have a play with us! 🐶

📅 Sunday 20 September

⏰ 9am–1pm

📍 Wangaratta Kennel Club

🎟️ FREE ENTRY

There’ll also be a community dog walk, local dog businesses and services, Sniffaris, have-a-go agility, dog massage, health and nutrition advice and plenty of opportunities to meet other dog lovers.

We’d love to see you there! 🐾

🐾 Group Class Moments: Intermediate

This week we worked on building play, engagement and obedience while working in close proximity to other dogs.

As the distractions increase, we’re helping dogs learn to stay connected with their handler and make good choices — even when there’s plenty happening around them.

A few moments from this week’s class 👇

🐾 Day Train Diary: Iggy

Iggy is back for his 4th Day Train session, continuing to build the skills he’s been working on while gradually increasing the level of distraction around him.

Today’s focus:

🐶 Puppy development

🎯 Building obedience around distractions

👀 Developing engagement in more challenging environments

What we worked on:

- Sit
- Drop
- Loose lead walking

Progress:

Iggy is becoming more engaged and able to focus in environments with higher levels of distraction — an important step in helping him build reliable skills in everyday situations.

Next steps:

We’ll continue building Iggy’s engagement while gradually increasing distractions around his obedience work.

Small steps, consistent practice and the right level of challenge help build skills that last. 🐾

📚Training Tip Tuesday

Ever feel like your dog forgets everything the second you leave the house?

It may not be an obedience problem — it could be an engagement problem.

Before we expect our dogs to listen around distractions, we need to teach them that interacting with us is worthwhile.

That’s where engagement and play come in. 💛

Swipe through to see why we use them in training and how you can start building engagement with your dog.
