Hi everyone I received this message and I’m too scared to click the link. I don’t know if it’s a scam or not but as I have not posted in a very long while and going back to horse massage it looking unlikely it might be that this page will be shut down.

There’s heaps of helpful posts you might re-read either that I personally wrote or have shared - a trip through memory lane before it goes (if it actually does 🤷‍♀️).

Hope your horses are feeling fine! A quick update on my herd for those interested.

Pablo (Grey Andy X) has retired and is loving being an uncle to Martin (Warmblood/TB Buckskin I bred). Pablo is looking the best he’s ever been as the extra movement having adventures with Martin over undulating ground is keeping his weight off. Martin is just loving life and being cheeky. Pablo is happy but a little jealous of Leonardo (Black-Brown Andy X) who at 7yo is now my riding horse. Unfortunately I don’t get too much time to work with him but he is going really well! He would be a superstar if I can find the time , with few issues so he is a delight to ride ❤️. I have found a wonderful instructor who I cannot fault his ethos so far which is wonderful so moving forward is exciting! The others of course are in retirement spending their days eating, resting or sleeping - what bliss!

Wishing you all the best and happiness with your horses. I hope good luck abounds for you, and if not - make your luck!

Warm wishes,

Jodie x

Vetkin Taping Course with Robyn Larson - Shelton

This past weekend I attended Vetkin taping run by Robyn Larson - Shelton. Robyn has a wealth of knowledge and the combination of learning from her as well as learning the intriguing usage of vetkin taping was amazing.

Vetkin taping has fascinated me since I first saw it. How did it work? What did it do? More importantly, what did it help? Well, it helps loads. How do I know? The horses told us.

They told us in their more relaxed backs that had previously been tense and sore. They told us with suddenly being able to use their hind end and straighten up their wonky gaits. They told us with their eyes which relaxed, heads which lowered, sighs and yawns.

Horses are amazing with what they endure. They will hide their pain and mostly are successful. Reducing discomfort with a little bit of tape seems impossible. Yet it does. It’s not a miracle cure by any means, but it seems to give so much relief when it’s in the right place. Is it permanent? No, but it allows that extra oomph to get them over the line from unable to able.

I took my two boys along. They’ve had a tough year plagued by laminitis so have done no work. This has meant I haven’t been as close to them as normal, I’ve been so busy managing them and other aspects of my life I’ve barely run my hands over them. They both had new issues of which I was unaware. Anyway, with insights from Robyn, we can move forward. She’s amazing like that. Therapists can join her next at Mandalong NSW May 15th and 16th can contact Equine Miracle. I recommend you do.

Definitely eeeekkk for me with Pablo and Leonardo. The others not affected as much but boy, laminitis is a worry if you have a susceptible horse! Weird to think someone wouldn’t want the rain but they do say us horse people are crazy!

Wahoo we have Rain or eeeekkkk we have Rain. The grass has been stressed due to the drought and now with the rain, the grass has flushed and I have noticed quite a few horses being affected. Please be vigilant. Especially before your trimmer, therapist or vet comes to attend your horse, please do not move your horse into a new paddock. Keep up your supplements, magnesium, toxin binders etc, increase the dose if need be. Monitor your horses behaviour - anxious, jumpy -on edge, manure - is it liquid, how does their body feel - tight?? Horses aren't thinking right when they are affected and situations can become dangerous, this is a safety issue so please please pay attention, many thanks and better calmer horses everyone.

It’s been a long time since I have posted as I have been doing very little massage. A very few (persistent) people have managed to get me to see their horses over the past year or so. However it’s difficult to say no when people are desperate.

Myofascial release, plus whatever my form of ‘energy’ or ‘craniosacral’ is (not qualified in either, only qualified in massage), and listening to the horse is what I do. I don’t have all the answers or explanations. Gosh sometimes I forget the name of the particular muscle I’m working on!

But whatever it is I do I’m very grateful and happy when people give me feedback like this, unsolicited. Since moving to Seymour very few people know of me. Is there something in the saying that those who truly need you will find you? I’m not sure, but this horse is glad his owner reached out. He was really bad, a poor and sorry soul. I made no promises, but this is wonderful ❤️.

Horses deserve everyone to read this

It was a conversation about riding lessons. My friend said she thought it was strange that I’d worked so extensively with trainers. Yes, I could have paid for a college degree with the money I spent on riding lessons back in the day. She said in her country, people didn’t do that. I’m not sure...

Your horse is two sided. Going right his body copes differently to going left. One side will be easy, and prone to overbending when you’d like less bend. The other side will be stiff and prone to being straight when you’d like more bend.

Treat the direction in the opposite way to the horses preference. Remember this is an exercise, it doesn’t mean ride like this all the time. Do a little then allow the horse to recover. Time can gradually get a little longer but remember it still is an exercise not done for the entire session.

This picture is from Jane Savoie’s Dressage 101. Like most books I don’t agree with everything, but there are plenty of good descriptions. So often I hear riders complaining about unevenness in their horse - but not doing anything about it, some even expecting the massage to ‘fix it’.

Work on straightness and continue to build up understanding of why gymnastic exercises are done. Happy riding!
