We are a dog health and wellness hub located in Wangaratta. Hi, my name is Amy Ledger, I am the owner/operator of Wang Doggy Day Spa. I'm a Wang (Wangaratta) local. I love where I live, the community and all the people and animals I've met over the years. I've enjoyed my last 16 years working as a Veterinary Nurse with the incredible team at Warby St Vet Hospital. And now, I cannot wait for you to

visit the Day Spa in Baker St and meet the incredible team of stylists and health professionals. With my Veterinary Nursing background, rest assured that your dog is in good hands. If we notice anything with your dog requiring further attention from your Vet, we'll let you know. Such as poor skin/coat/nail health, lumps or bumps, pain during the grooming procedure that could be related to joint health and arthritis, dental disease, foreign bodies in the skin ie grass seeds, smelly ears which could mean an infection, etc. We want your dog to live their best life, for as long as possible, as a valued member of your family. Our small team are passionate and experienced to help you maintain your dogs skin and coat health. We can help with advice for home care in between appointments. We stock a range of products and tools you can use at home on your dog. Please ensure dogs attending for grooming are healthy and well on the day of their appointment, and the previous 5 days prior. The health and safety of our staff and dogs attending the Day Spa is our priority. The dog day spa offers all grooming services; including nail trimming, warm hydrobath washing, clipping, styled grooms, double coat de-shedding (de-moulting), nice and tidy trims, ear cleans, medicated shampoo's, flea rinses and ear hair removal. We also have other health professionals visiting the facility for private consultations. Please see a list in-store, check this page, give us a call, or check on the website. It’s important to keep your dog’s nails trimmed to support healthy posture, prevent discomfort, and reduce the risk of painful nail tears. You can book a nail trim with us at any time, and of course, nail trimming is included in all of our grooming services.

Occasionally, we meet dogs who have had negative experiences with nail trimming, making the process more challenging. In these cases, we may invite you to stay and support your dog during the appointment and provide you with some gentle desensitisation exercises to work on at home. Our goal is always to make every grooming experience as calm and positive as possible💜

We have a wide range of Licki Mats available in our salon shop. Some are super tough for those over eager dogs others are more difficult for the speedy ones. Either way licking is a self soothing activity for your dog and can help to calm and reduce anxiety. They are a great activity for your dog to be distracted by when you need to do health checks on their nails, ears, or just for brushing their sensitive areas 💜

Pain Awareness Month is so important for our dogs because, unlike us, they can’t tell us when something hurts. They rely on us to notice the little changes in their behaviour, movement or mood that might mean they’re in pain. If we miss it, that discomfort can become chronic, affect their quality of life and sometimes even show up as “naughty” or unusual behaviour.

It’s easy to miss these subtle signs because dogs are so eager to be with their family, they’ll often push through discomfort just to stay part of the pack.

During we will be discussing the different types of pain, how pain can present in dogs, how pain can become its own disease and what you can do to reduce pain or painful episodes.

We love seeing our dog owners use confidence sessions to help desensitise their dogs to the grooming process. It’s estimated that around 90% of dogs don’t enjoy professional grooming, so these sessions play an important role in making salon visits as stress-free and positive as possible.

Dogs are gently introduced to the salon environment - the smells, sounds, equipment and handling - at their own pace, with plenty of treats, encouragement and fun games. Whether it’s the bath, dryers, or clippers they’re unsure of, we focus on gentle exposure without force, helping them build confidence and trust in us.

We also provide feedback to owners on how they can support their dog at home to speed up the desensitisation process. It’s wonderful to have so many engaged owners working alongside us to help their dogs have a positive experience. 💜Curly Coat Retriever💜

The Curly-Coated Retriever, one of the oldest retriever breeds, was developed in England in the 19th century to be a versatile hunting and retrieving dog. Known for its energetic personality and distinctive curly coat, this breed was bred to work in both water and on land, making them great all-around hunting partners. As part of the Sporting Group, they’re highly trainable and eager to please, excelling in activities like field trials, agility and even as therapy dogs.

Grooming a Curly-Coated Retriever requires a bit more attention compared to some other breeds. Their dense, curly coat is water-resistant, but it can mat and tangle if not brushed regularly. Weekly brushing helps to prevent mats and occasional baths keep their coat looking clean and fresh. They don’t shed excessively, but their coat does require maintenance to avoid becoming unmanageable 💜

Matted coats can be painful and risky to remove, but they are preventable with regular brushing at home and more frequent grooming appointments. Meet E L S A 💜 a 1yo Isabella French Bulldog

Elsa had her first visit for an Express Wash. This included a warm bath, a towel dry, her ears cleaned and a nail trim. Elsa did very well for her first visit to the salon with Nicole.

The Isabella French Bulldog is a rare colour variation of the French Bulldog breed, due to a recessive dilution gene that lightens the typical brown or black pigment to a light brown with the blue-grey tint.

We’ve got everything you need to tackle shedding at home, right here in our salon shop; from de-shedding shampoos and brushes to the FURminator and even the humble curry comb or rubber glove for our short-haired shedders.

Prefer to leave it to us? Book in for our De-Shedding Grooming Service, which includes a bath with de-shedding shampoo, high-velocity drying to blow out all that loose undercoat and plenty of brushing so your vacuum doesn't have to work so hard at home! 💜
