🐾🎉 We’re excited to be part of Doggies Day Out 2025 at Whiteman Park! 🎉🐾

On Sunday 14 September, the Future Proof Training Academy team will be on site to help make the day safe, fun, and stress-free for both dogs and their people.

Here’s what you can expect from us on the day:

✅ Behaviour Hub – come chat with our trainers about dog body language, stress signals, and behaviour tips.
✅ Quiet Zone – a calm, partitioned space for dogs that need time to decompress away from the crowds.
✅ Chill Out Zone – a comfy open area with water, shade, and space for a breather.
✅ Education Cards & Resources – free take-home guides on enrichment, thresholds, stress signs, and respectful interactions.
✅ On-the-ground Behaviour Mediators – our staff will be roaming the event to support positive, safe experiences for all dogs.
✅ Scent-zone! - our area will be filled with new and exciting puzzles, games, and environmental enrichment for your dogs!

🐕💡 Our focus this year is on Enrichment & Thresholds:

Enrichment keeps dogs balanced through sniffing, playing, problem-solving, and rest.

Thresholds are your dog’s way of saying how they’re coping: 🟢 relaxed, 🟡 rising stress, 🔴 overwhelmed. Recognising these signs helps you step in early before things escalate.

🐶 Doggie’s Day Out is back on Saturday 14 September at Mussel Pool West – so mark your calendar and get ready for a tail-wagging good time!

This much-loved event is all about celebrating our furry friends with a fantastic range of local pet stalls, tasty dog treats, clever pet products and heaps of dog-friendly fun.

🟢🟡🔴 Understanding Your Dog’s Threshold Zones!
🟡 The Yellow Zone: Warning Signs Ahead! 🐶

Every dog has their own Yellow Zone—the space where emotions start to overflow and behaviour shifts. 🌀

⚠️ What does the Yellow Zone look like?
🐾 Medium to high arousal
🐾 Displacement behaviours (e.g., lip licking, yawning)
🐾 Frustration, fidgeting, or conflicting responses

⏳ Why does this matter?
The longer your dog stays in the Yellow Zone without recovery, the harder it is for them to return to a calm state. If they’re pushed too far, they may cross into the Red Zone! 🚨

💡 Your role?
✔️ Recognise the early signs
✔️ Allow time for recovery and regulation
✔️ Help them return to their Green Zone

🎄🧠 Thursday Enrichment Spotlight — G + Manny’s Christmas in July! 🎁🐾

It’s beginning to look a lot like… Christmas in July! ⛄
And last week, our enrichment queen G is back with Manny the golden boy to unwrap some festive fun!

✨ In this special edition, G helped Manny discover his very own present — hidden treats wrapped inside a gift just for him! Watching him sniff, paw, and tear through his wrapping to reveal his reward was pure joy 🎥💝

Here’s why we LOVE this kind of enrichment:

🌊🐶 Discovery Den Dive: Arlo the Sea Captain's Treasure Hunt! ⚓💰

Ahoy, landlubbers! 🏴‍☠️ This month’s Discovery Den took our daycare pups under the sea for a swashbuckling adventure — and leading the way was none other than Sea Captain Arlo, on a mission to find the hidden gold! 🗺️🐾

From navigating ocean caves (aka tunnels!) to sniffing out sunken treasure in ball pits, our daycare explorers got to engage in exciting enrichment activities designed to boost their confidence, curiosity, and problem-solving skills — all while having a splashing good time! 🐠✨

💡 Our monthly Discovery Den themes are a huge hit with the dogs, and a great way to mix fun with mental stimulation, helping your pup build better focus, social skills, and emotional resilience.

🧸🍓 Wednesday Funday — Teddy Bear's Picnic Edition! 🍓🧸

Last week’s Funday was beary special… it was our Teddy Bear’s Picnic at FPTA! 🐻💛
Blankets were laid out, teddy bears took over the daycare, and our pups got to explore, play, and interact with their new (stuffed) friends in a calm, cozy setting.

But it’s not just cute — it’s purposeful enrichment.
At FPTA, we believe in creating novel, safe, and secure experiences that challenge our dogs in healthy ways. Whether it's new objects, smells, or social situations, these structured environments help:

🟢🟡🔴 Understanding Your Dog’s Threshold Zones! ⚡ Trigger Stacking: When Stress Piles Up! 🐶

Just like us, dogs can only handle so much before it all becomes too much!

🐾 What is Trigger Stacking?
When a dog encounters multiple stressors without enough time to recover, their stress builds up—pushing them closer to their threshold!

📌 Example:
🐶 Loud noises in the morning ➡️ Overexcited greetings ➡️ Unfamiliar dogs at the park ➡️ Unexpected vet visit = BOOM! Overwhelmed! 💥

🚦 Why is this important?
Even small triggers add up over time. If we keep pushing through, we risk reactivity, fear, or complete shutdown.

💡 What can we do?
✔️ Recognise their early stress signals (panting, lip licking, avoiding eye contact).
✔️ Provide recovery time between stressful events.
✔️ Keep daily experiences balanced—not every day needs to be a big adventure!

🟢🟡🔴 Understanding Your Dog’s Threshold Zones! 🐶

Just like us, dogs have emotional thresholds! Their behaviour can shift between Green, Yellow, and Red Zones, and it’s our job to help them stay in a safe and comfortable space.

🟢 Green Zone – “I’m cool, calm, and collected!” 😌
🐾 Relaxed body, soft eyes, tail wagging naturally
🐶 Playful, engaged, able to listen and learn

🟡 Yellow Zone – “I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed…” 😰
🐾 Ears pinned, panting, lip licking, avoiding eye contact
🐶 Overexcitement, pacing, whining, or stiff posture

🔴 Red Zone – “I can’t handle this anymore!” 🚨
🐾 Growling, barking, lunging, or completely shutting down
🐶 Too stressed to listen—this is past their threshold!

💡 Our Goal? Keep dogs in the Green Zone or allow proper recovery when they enter the Yellow Zone. If they hit Red, they need space and time to decompress.

🐾 Every dog has their own threshold! Pay attention to their signals and adjust accordingly.
