🚽 Inappropriate Urination.

Is your cat suddenly peeing on the floor, carpet, or even your bed? 😿 While it may seem like a behavioural issue, inappropriate urination is often a sign of stress or an underlying medical problem.

🔎 Common causes include:
✔️ Medical issues – Urinary tract infections (UTIs), bladder stones, or feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD) can make urination painful, leading cats to associate the litter box with discomfort.
✔️ Litter box problems – Too dirty, wrong location, covered vs. uncovered, or the wrong type of litter. Some cats are picky about texture or scent!
✔️ Stress or anxiety – Moving house, new pets, loud noises, or changes in routine can cause stress-related urination.
✔️ Marking behaviour – Entire (non-desexed) males (and even some females) spray to mark territory. Desexing can reduce this behaviour.

🐾 What to do?
🚑 Rule out medical causes first—a vet check is essential!
🧼 Clean accidents properly—use an enzymatic cleaner to remove odours.
🚽 Improve the litter box setup—ensure it’s clean, accessible, and in a quiet area.
😌 Reduce stress—Feliway diffusers, routine stability, and hiding spots can help.

If your cat is still struggling, speak to your vet about behavioural solutions. Early intervention is key! 🐱💛

Food Allergies vs Intolerance

🥩 Food Allergies vs. Food Intolerances: What’s the Difference?
Does your pet have frequent tummy troubles or itchy skin? Food allergies and food intolerances can both cause problems, but they’re not the same!

🔸 Food Allergies: An immune system reaction that can cause itching, ear infections, vomiting, diarrhoea, or hives. Common culprits include chicken, beef, dairy, and wheat.

🔸 Food Intolerances: A digestive issue (not immune-related) that leads to gas, bloating, diarrhoea, or vomiting after eating certain foods.

If you suspect a food allergy, an elimination diet is the best way to identify the trigger. Your vet can guide you through the process to find a diet that keeps your pet healthy and comfortable! 🐕💙

💡 Tip for pet parents: If your dog has food sensitivities, novel protein diets like kangaroo or crocodile-based foods can sometimes help!

🐾 If your pet is constantly itching, licking their paws, or developing red, irritated skin, allergies might be the culprit! 🌿🐶

Common triggers include:
🔸 Environmental allergens – pollen, dust mites, mould (especially in humid areas)
🔸 Food allergies – common culprits: chicken, beef, dairy
🔸 Flea allergy dermatitis – even one flea bite can cause a reaction!
🔸 Grass allergies – native grasses like couch grass and buffalo grass can cause irritation

Symptoms can include chronic ear infections, hotspots, hair loss, and relentless scratching. If your pet is struggling with persistent itchiness, a vet visit can help determine the cause and best treatment—whether that’s allergy testing, diet changes, or medication.

💡 Australia’s hot and humid climate can worsen skin allergies, so keeping up with flea prevention and regular bathing with vet-recommended shampoos can help manage symptoms.

Sweet Ruby was in for her desexing with Dr Georgina last week! 🐶✨
Desexing is an important part of responsible pet care — it helps prevent unwanted litters and can reduce the risk of serious health conditions such as pyometra and certain cancers.
Ruby was such a brave little patient and is now recovering well at home with lots of love, cuddles, and rest ahead 💖🌸
