🐾 Microchipping Your Pet – Why It Matters 🐾
In just one week, three stray cats have been brought into the clinic with no microchip.
It’s heartbreaking watching them wait, confused and scared, with no way for us to reach the people who love them.
A microchip could have meant an immediate phone call, a familiar voice, and a safe trip home to their family.
Microchipping is one of the easiest and most important things you can do to keep your pet safe. If they ever escape or get lost, a microchip gives them the best chance of being returned home quickly.
💛 Why microchip?
It’s a permanent form of ID that can’t fall off
Vets, councils and shelters can scan the chip to contact you
Helps your dog or cat be safely reunited with you
Supports responsible pet ownership in our community
📜 Legal Requirements
Queensland (QLD) and New South Wales (NSW):
🐾Dogs and cats must be microchipped before 12 weeks of age, or before being sold or given away (whichever comes first).
🐾Owners must keep their microchip details updated.
🐾On the Gold Coast, dogs also need a registration tag, name tag and microchip as part of responsible ownership.
🐶 The City of Gold Coast Registration brochures:
