🐦💙 A lucky escape for this gannet!

This beautiful seabird was brought into our clinic after becoming entangled in a large fishing hook. On examination, we found three hooks embedded, which required a general anaesthetic to safely remove.

Thankfully, the procedure went smoothly and our patient recovered well 🤍

Anton later released him at Hillarys Boat Harbour. It was a slightly nerve-wracking moment when he initially slipped into a crevice (and gave us a scare!), then had to dodge a few curious seagulls… but after gathering himself, he took off strongly and flew away 🌊✨

Moments like this are incredibly rewarding, but also a reminder:

🎣 Please be mindful of discarded or loose fishing tackle.
Hooks and lines can cause serious injury to our local wildlife.

If you ever come across an injured animal, don’t hesitate to contact your local vet or wildlife rescue.
