This handsome man is a perfect example of why early intervention is so important! 🐶

While this guy looks big, he’s still young! He still has some puppy type behaviours which in a big body, isn’t super cute! 🤕

Maddock can get very excitable while greeting people and tends to jump and get mouthy 🦷

In our consultation, his owner noticed a massive difference in his behaviour with just a few little things we implemented 🤯

Such as :
🐾 Learning how to use to lead to keep ourself out of Maddock’s jumping line of fire

🐾 Reinforcing behaviours we’d like to see more of, such as sitting, laying down, and settling

🐾 Making sure we don’t accidentally turn the jumping into a fun game

☎️ If you’re ready to make a change, message us today to be placed on our waiting list!

3 things I recommend NOT doing as a dog trainer 👇🏼

👉🏼 Saying hello to other dogs on walks
Why? 🤔
- Creates an expectation of always being able to say hello which can lead to increased pulling on the lead, frustration and reactivity

- It’s not a great method of socialisation and can encourage bad manners

👉🏼 Giving your dog all the answers
Why? 🤔

- It’s okay for your dog to figure things out themselves and can help them learn to deal with stress in a controlled way

- Next time their ball rolls under the couch, let them figure out how to kick it out from under there, instead of grabbing it for them straight away

👉🏼 Hoping they’ll ’grow out of it’
Why? 🤔

- Sometimes dogs grow out of habits, sometimes they don’t. But how we react to their actions can have a massive impact on how their behaviour progresses

- It’s always best to consult a trainer instead of hoping for the best

Are you making these common mistakes and need some help breaking your habits?

This is Roxy and we are working on loose lead walking and recall with her!

In our consultation Roxy was quite anxious and didn’t enjoy being separated from her sister Molly
After some time, hard work, and trouble shooting she was much more comfortable and happy to work!

Her owners have been spending more time alone with the pair separated, walking and training separately

To help Roxy even further, we implemented the use of licki mats and chews to encourage that calm behaviour

We’ve seen a HUGE difference in Roxy’s behaviour in just a few weeks and we have no doubt she’ll continue to further improve with her owners help

Sometimes we can’t jump straight into all the fun stuff right away because our dogs are feeling uncomfortable, and that’s okay! It’s important that we address the underlying anxiety first, in order to get the best out of our training

Well done team!! 🏆

Have you ever looked at a dog and thought ‘this dog has ended up with exactly who they needed to’?

That’s exactly what I thought when I met Winston and Primrose

The pair couldn’t be further apart personality wise. Winston is a very confident, happy go- lucky boy and Primrose is more on the timid side, having lived the first part of her life as a puppy mill mum and having very limited socialisation

Their owners are so patient and are more than happy to make adjustments to ensure both dogs are happy and feel safe, even though that looks different for each of them

Their expectations look different for each, because they know they’re very different dogs!

It’s so important that your expectations of your dog match their capabilities and these dogs are so incredibly lucky to have just that

We saw some super great stuff today from both dogs and we can’t wait to watch how these guys progress 🥰

Dogs on leads please! 🦮

Just a gentle reminder that dogs MUST be on a lead upon trainer arrival and remain in lead until indicated by our trainer - (yes even if we are in a yard or the house)

This is for a few reasons:
🦺 Safety:
Some dogs give us unexpected surprises such as jumping, hu***ng or wandering off. Being on a lead gives you more control over your dog to prevent these things from happening

☄️ Convenience
It’s super easy to start our training in an instant, or make an example out of certain behaviours if the dog is already leashed and right by us

🩼 Injury prevention
Dogs who over aroused or scared can end up hurting us! So a lead helps to keep everyone safe

🐾 It’s not unusual for us to ask that you keep your dog leashed the entire duration of the time slot for the above reasons

☝🏻 Please let us know if you’re unsure about whether or not your dog should be on a lead during our time together!

A treat for the girls tonight - duck carcasses! 🦆
From The Pet Food Shop Shepparton

Did you know bones are a GREAT way for your dog to clean their teeth naturally?

We generally stick clear of the dental sticks and go straight for the bones!

Here’s why I’ll NEVER correct a reactive dog 👇🏼

🐾 Punishing a dog for reacting SUPPRESSES the emotions, meaning it doesn’t treat the root cause of the reactivity. This makes the dog more likely to blow up again in the future due to pent up anxiety/frustration/excitement

🐾 The dog can learn to tolerate the correction, therefore, you’ll likely have to keep increasing your level of correction for it to be effective. This can lead to damage of the trachea

🐾 Scientifically proven to increase anxiety in other areas of a dogs life - not just around other dogs

If you’re looking for a solution to your dogs reactivity, it’s EXTREMELY important to address the ROOT CAUSE of the reactivity

For example, if your dog has previously been attacked in the past and is now reactive.
Your dog is likely feeling scared seeing another dog, fearing they may have the same experience as last time.

Would it be fair to punish them for feeling anxious because of a previous negative experience? 🤔
Absolutely not

If you need help tapping into the root cause of your dogs reactivity, message us today! ☎️

How great is this photo of Clyde from The Dog Studio 🤩

This man absolutely smashed his consultation where we talked all things loose lead walking, politely greeting visitors, and how to reduce attention seeking behaviours 🐾

A credit to his owner who is super patient with him and open minded in trialling new techniques! 🦮

We can’t wait to see how his training progresses 🤩
