Often we think of emergencies in the small animal world- snake bite, hit by car. However, we also have life threatening emergencies with cattle!! This guy was bloated and struggling to breathe. With a quick clip, wash, local and inserting a trochar, we stitched in this sleeve to allow the air to continue to escape whilst his stomach returned to normal being placed on hay over a few days.
Can happen with grain, digesting small starches too quickly, very green lush pastures. The microbubbles just can't escape! Key to releasing the gas is, don't let it happen too fast or they will die from shock or sometimes rupture their diaphragm. We leave these sleeves in for a few days and then remove and the body heals over. Cattle are amazing creatures!!

You might be wondering if you are on the correct page- is this a vet or mechanics..... Greyhounds are definitely a machine but the animal type!! This girl had just a little bit of ooze on her wound from her desexing so Brookie made sure to clean her up just right. Now she is ready to go home :)

Meet Blackie.... she is a local snake catcher and unfortunately was bitten. She didn't realise it wasn't Monday- Friday or between 8am-5pm but that's ok!!! We were able to help!!!. From paralysed one day to up and wagging her tail the next after treatment, we are super glad she was able to go home. We have told her to pick a new day job :)

Massive congratulations to the Garratt family of Argyle at Southbrook. Celebrating 100 years of farming their dairy and what an achievement. Changing with the times and being innovative within their industry. Was very interesting hearing what they have implemented, why and means of further improving their cattles welfare and production. Was a fabulous day and yummy milk products from Norco :)
