Just realised it’s been a few months between posts! Ive been busily working on my own author/illustration project to prepare for submission to a publisher then I learnt of an illustration competition for emerging illustrators - so total pause on my work while I made my submission for the comp last weekend.
And then! We got a puppy last week! Needless to say that has put a paws on every project!
Usual programming will resume soon.

Last weekend we drove to Kalgoorlie just to go watch the Kalgoorlie Desert Race. It was fast, loud and dusty! A lot of fun to watch. Felt very ‘outback’ with few trees and a lot of big skies and red dirt.
Have you been to Kalgoorlie? It reminds me a bit of my home town Alice Springs, though it is also pretty different. The hills we saw were somewhat curated by the many years of mining!

I have been getting into running and I enjoy running along a path with these lush trees either side. Just bliss. The other day while running I saw an owl taking a nap. Or a very long nap at least. I didn’t stop to photograph him as it just didn’t seem right, ao here he is taking a long nap in my drawing underneath the trees. It was exciting to see him because it obviously indicates he and friends of his visit the area and that is pretty cool.

On Monday we were gifted a brand new bird bath and we placed it near our front fence so we can watch for bird friends from our lounge and kitchen. Well today, exciting updates, with not one but two crows deciding to splash about and enjoy themselves on our first hot day of spring. So nice to see! Also saw a couple of bees hovering near it too. Hopefully other birds don’t mind sharing with the big crows.

Also, Ive been working on my understanding of colour and mixed all these paints from only 3 colours. Look I get that it is pretty basic artsy stuff but Ive just ambled along so far. And Im actually mildly chuffed with myself for doing something so basic but new to me. I am thoroughly loving this style combing my two loves - water colour and pencil. So, hoping to chanel this into more illustrations. Happy mid week to you all!

Thoroughly enjoyed ‘One wrong turn’ by Chenée Marrapodi. A story set in a ballet studio of 12 year olds, in Perth Australia featuring a recent Italian migrant and her fellow Australian peers. Looking forward to sharing with my ballet loving neice to see what she thinks!

Saturday vibes! While I was off at a workshop by ‘Writing for kids and sustaining a creative career’, my toddler was home rollin the wheels on his balance bike. He loves it! And I loved the workshop. So inspiring and I enjoyed meeting up with other creatives both old friends and new.
