RSPCA WA

RSPCA WA We are WA’s leading animal welfare charity organisation, preventing cruelty and promoting kindness.

When animals are let down by their owners, left helpless, traumatised and alone, they rely on RSPCA WA to step in and give them a second chance at life, love and happiness. Since 1892, RSPCA WA has worked tirelessly to prevent animal cruelty. We have rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed animals of many kinds and given them a second chance. We have educated the community and lobbied the Government to

promote animal welfare and prevent cruelty. Our Mission:
Lead the improvement of animal welfare in WA through prevention and intervention programs, advocacy, and education. We do this through:
🐾 Promoting and enforcing animal welfare legislation and driving legislative change
🐾 Educating and influencing the community
🐾 Achieving organisational excellence and delivering best practice animal care. At RSPCA WA we are dedicated to improving the treatment of animals because we believe it strengthens our society, enhances our lives and contributes to a better world. We have made great strides towards our vision, but there is still a long way to go. RSPCA WA would simply not exist without individuals and organisations who share our vision. We rely on the generosity of animal lovers to contribute around $9 million each year, the majority of what it costs to carry out our animal protection work. In order to overcome the challenges of increasing demand, rising costs and a vast geographical service area, it is critical that RSPCA WA continue to grow its supporter base. Through personal donations and gifts, and corporate fundraising initiatives, as well as a calendar of events, we will work to connect with people who want to protect and save Western Australia’s most vulnerable animals.

– One of our favourite rescue stories from last year! 🥰

Hope was fading for Simba, a trapped cat in Innaloo, until a kind-hearted bricklayer stepped in to help our inspectors. 😺💛

On November 28, 2024, we were called to a home where Simba had become stuck in a tiny 3-inch gap between two brick walls. She was wedged in so tightly, her little face was visibly squished. 😔 It’s believed she had been trapped for up to 24 hours.

Our inspectors were on the scene, working carefully to free her. The risk of injury was high—any wrong move could break one of her fragile bones. As they explored safe options to rescue her, a bricklayer working nearby offered to help.

Thanks to his skill and generosity, he carefully removed some bricks, giving our inspectors the space they needed to gently free Simba. 🤩

She had a graze on her paw and her body temperature was low, but a vet check confirmed that apart from some minor injuries, Simba was going to be just fine. 🐾

She made a full recovery at home, surrounded by love and cuddles from her family. 💕

A heartfelt thank you to the compassionate bricklayer who stepped up when it mattered most, and to our dedicated inspectors who work tirelessly to protect animals across WA. 🥰

Animals find their way into our shelter for many reasons, and regardless of the reason we're here to care for them.

Sometimes, surrendering a pet isn't an act of selfishness — it’s an act of love, courage, and protection. It’s a decision not made lightly, and with the hope that someone else can offer a better life.

Recently, we received heartfelt feedback from a mental health professional who supported a client in making the difficult decision to surrender. Our compassion isn't reserved just for the animals — it’s for the people, too.

This is a side of our work that often goes unseen. It's not just about rescuing animals—it's also about showing compassion to people, even in their darkest moments. And sometimes, letting go and surrendering an animal is the most loving thing a person can do. ❤️

We don’t understand why Sheldon keeps getting overlooked. He’s been waiting for months for a forever home. 💔 Every day that passes, his hope dims just a little more.

Sheldon is an ex-RSPCA dog who was surrendered back to us in April. Originally adopted as a puppy last year, he was understandably confused — and heartbroken — when he was returned.

His shelter days should be behind him—just a memory, not his reality. 😔

This one-year-old mixed-breed boy has had a rocky, unpredictable start to life. Yet despite everything, his heart remains full of love, waiting patiently to be given the chance to shine.

All Sheldon wants is to be chosen. To be wanted. To finally belong. To be someone’s family. Could that someone be you?

If you’re searching for a big, silly, lovable goofball who will steal your heart the moment you meet him, your search ends here. Please consider opening your home—and your heart—to Sheldon. He’s been waiting far too long for a second chance. Oh, whoops, we mean a third chance.

He can live with another dog, pending a meet. He can also live with older, dog-savvy kids, and even full-time workers. You can read his full adoption profile by heading to the 🔗 in the comments. 👇

We can’t get enough of these adorable brothers! 😍

Meet Milko and Bullet — two sweet American Staffy puppies who arrived in our care at the end of May. Now eight weeks old, they’re ready to find their forever homes and are so excited to meet you!

These pups have the most beautiful latte-coloured coats — warm to the touch and just as soft as their personalities. Full of charm, Milko and Bullet love tug-of-war with their toys, racing around the yard, and snuggling up in your lap for a cozy nap.

Because they’re still so young, they haven’t been desexed yet. Their future adopters will need to return to the shelter for their sterilisation procedure once they’re old enough.

Think you’ve got room on your couch—and in your heart—for a puppy? If you're ready to commit to their ongoing training and have the patience to help them learn about the big, wide world, come visit us this weekend! You could take one (or even both!) of these adorable pups home. 🥰

No water. No love. No care.

Just a few scattered biscuits in a filthy, faeces-covered yard.

That was all Marnie, and her week-old puppies, had to survive.

Our horse post a fortnight ago absolutely exploded with interest, and we're so happy to announce that more than half have been rehomed! 😍

We're so glad that four of the seven horses, some of whom have been with us for years, finally have a home to call their own. It makes our hearts sing. ❤️

Alongside the remaining three horses - Parker, and bonded pair Leticia and Daphne - another equine beauty is also looking for a home! We have a handsome Shetland pony available who is looking for the retirement home of his dreams. Meet 26-year-old Buttons! 🤗

Standing at around 10HH, Buttons is a golden-hearted gentleman who's looking for a home to live out his twilight years. We can't say much about his past, but he didn't receive the best care. We're hoping someone can show him what true unconditional love feels like. Is this with you? 🥰

Buttons is also completely safe around children and lovely to handle. Aside from the normal requirements needed for a pony, he also needs an extremely secure fence and with minimal sand. He's very cheeky!

If you could give Buttons, Leticia, Daphne, or Parker the forever home they've been waiting for, please enquire today. And, even if you're not in a position to adopt a horse or pony yourself, it would help them immensely if you could like and share this post. We'd even love to hear about your own horse or pony too - your story might inspire someone else to open their heart and home to an equine in need. 💙

All are on agistment and are not located at the RSPCA WA Animal Care Centre in Malaga. Their profiles can be found via the 🔗 in the comments. 👇

Do these terrified faces look like ‘fun, family-friendly’ entertainment to you? 💔

An upcoming rodeo event in the Mid West will include cruel calf roping, despite most West Aussies wanting to see the practice banned.

Watching a calf as young as four months being lassoed around the neck as they try to flee, then being yanked off their feet and thrown to the ground for the sake of entertainment is unacceptable.

While rodeos are promoted as a traditional part of rural life, calf roping and other events do not reflect modern farming practices.

You can help by sharing this post, by talking about the animal welfare risks in rodeos, by not attending rodeos, and by expressing your concerns to those businesses still associated with rodeos.

We're blown away at Houdini's transformation! ❤️

Houdini came into our care heartbreakingly thin. He weighed just 10.3kg - his ideal weight being 18kg - and had a body condition score of 2/9. The team knew right away that he had been starving for a long time and needed help.

After a vet check, he was put on a strict feeding regime so he could regain weight at a steady and healthy pace. Thanks to Royal Canin and the feeding plan outlined by our vets, it wasn't long until Houdini was a happy and healthy pup!

We're so grateful to our official national nutritional partner Royal Canin, who donate their high-quality food to our shelter animals.

A month later, Houdini looked like an entirely new dog. He's now in a happy and loving home getting all the treatos he could ask for. 🤗

Today marks a great day for animal welfare in WA! 🙌🏻

As of today, pet shops will no longer be allowed to sell dogs and puppies, taking another step towards ending puppy farming here in WA.

Under the recent Dog Amendment Regulation 2024, pet shops that wish to continue selling dogs will need to obtain a ‘pet shop approval’ from their local government. Pet shops who are given the go ahead will only be allowed to adopt out dogs from approved refuge organisations.

If you are aware of a pet shop still selling dogs and puppies, please report them to the Department of Local Government.

Later this year, the Department of Local Government expects to launch PetsWA, a centralised registration system designed to track and monitor dog breeders, helping to identify and prevent potential cases of puppy farming.

As always, we encourage anyone looking to add a new dog or puppy to their family to consider adoption in the first instance.
