RSPCA WA

RSPCA WA We are WA’s leading animal welfare charity organisation, preventing cruelty and promoting kindness.

When animals are let down by their owners, left helpless, traumatised and alone, they rely on RSPCA WA to step in and give them a second chance at life, love and happiness. Since 1892, RSPCA WA has worked tirelessly to prevent animal cruelty. We have rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed animals of many kinds and given them a second chance. We have educated the community and lobbied the Government to

promote animal welfare and prevent cruelty. Our Mission:
Lead the improvement of animal welfare in WA through prevention and intervention programs, advocacy, and education. We do this through:
🐾 Promoting and enforcing animal welfare legislation and driving legislative change
🐾 Educating and influencing the community
🐾 Achieving organisational excellence and delivering best practice animal care. At RSPCA WA we are dedicated to improving the treatment of animals because we believe it strengthens our society, enhances our lives and contributes to a better world. We have made great strides towards our vision, but there is still a long way to go. RSPCA WA would simply not exist without individuals and organisations who share our vision. We rely on the generosity of animal lovers to contribute around $9 million each year, the majority of what it costs to carry out our animal protection work. In order to overcome the challenges of increasing demand, rising costs and a vast geographical service area, it is critical that RSPCA WA continue to grow its supporter base. Through personal donations and gifts, and corporate fundraising initiatives, as well as a calendar of events, we will work to connect with people who want to protect and save Western Australia’s most vulnerable animals.

Fifty animals found living in filth 💔

A 67-year-old Southern River woman will never be able to breed dogs again after receiving a permanent prohibition from being in charge of any animals in the Perth Magistrates Court today.

The importer and breeder of Pomeranian dogs was sentenced on 23 counts of animal cruelty over the state of animals found at a Southern River property. Fifty animals in ill-health were discovered by RSPCA WA at the site which was running primarily as a Pomeranian puppy breeding operation.

As well as the lifetime prohibition, Magistrate Joe Randazzo also imposed a 12 months’ term of imprisonment, suspended for 15 months. The offender was also ordered to pay nearly $65,000 in animal care costs and legal fees related to the case.

On arrival, our inspector noted a strong smell of faeces as she approached the large kennel block on the property and saw a build-up of dog faeces in the drains outside of the kennels. Multiple Pomeranians were confined in the kennels either by themselves or in groups of up to four and they had dirty, matted coats.

Do these terrified faces look like ‘fun, family-friendly’ entertainment to you? 💔

RSPCA WA is urging those planning on attending this year’s Mullewa Muster to think about what animals may experience during roping and bucking events, with research showing they can cause fear, distress and risk of physical injury.

RSPCA Australia Senior Scientific Officer Dr Di Evans said the welfare concerns were grounded in a growing body of scientific evidence.

“What people may see as part of the entertainment, animals experience very differently. The science is clear that some rodeo events expose animals to significant fear, distress, and risk of injury. These animals, sometimes very young, are placed in situations they cannot understand or escape, thereby seriously compromising their welfare,” Dr Evans said.

While RSPCA WA acknowledges regional events like the Mullewa Muster can play an important social and economic role in country communities, specific events often seen at rodeos, such as calf roping and bucking events, should not escape scrutiny.

Abused and neglected animals like Morley need you the most.

When Morley first came into our care, she was painfully thin — just skin and bone. She was in the worst-of-the-worst condition, even by the standards our vets are used to seeing.

Severely underweight, visibly skeletal, and suffering from multiple untreated medical issues, her case shocked even experienced veterinary professionals.

She wasn’t just underweight. She’d been living with untreated injuries and clearly hadn’t had the care she needed for a long time.

Morley’s story is heartbreaking but unfortunately not unique.

Over the past year, more and more animals like Morley have come through our doors in very poor condition, affected by neglect, cruelty, and lack of care.

The difference is what happens next.

With the right treatment, time in foster care, and a lot of patience, Morley slowly recovered. She’s now in a safe, loving home — something that didn’t feel possible when she first arrived.

But there are still animals coming in every week who need that same chance.

With the end of the financial year approaching, we’re asking for your support.

A tax-deductible donation before June 30 will help us care for animals like Morley, animals who are unwell, frightened, and relying on us to step in.

Every donation helps cover things like urgent vet treatment, rehabilitation, and daily care.

💙 If you can, please consider donating today and helping us be there for the next animal that needs us. You can do this by heading to the 🔗 in the comments.

They have been in our care for over 100 days. Will you be their hope? 💔

It breaks our hearts seeing dogs spend so long in our care, only to be overlooked once they’re finally ready for adoption.

The reality is, these sweethearts don't want to be here. They want a couch to curl up on, a family to love, and a place where they finally feel safe and wanted. And after spending so much time in our care, they're starting to lose hope.

🐶 Aster – 261 long days of waiting to finally give her love, cuddles, and happy tail wags to someone who chooses her
🐶 Skye – 200 days without a home, even with a heart full of love to give (currently fee-free)
🐶 Mochi – a pup with so much love to give but has been in her kennel for 137 days
🐶 Monarch – a cuddly pup that has been waiting for cuddles for 101 days

Please give them the second chance they have been waiting so long for. Every one of them deserves someone to finally choose them.

To help these long-term residents find the second chance they’ve been waiting so patiently for, we’ve reduced their adoption fees to just $100. Please keep in mind all usual adoption processes and screening still apply.

If you’ve been thinking about adopting, now is the perfect time to meet your match. 💙 Or if you can't adopt right now, a simple like, comment or share could help these cuties reach the person meant for them.

Olive oil the key ingredient in kitten rescue recipe

RSPCA WA inspectors were called to a rescue with a difference at a Kewdale business last week after a curious kitten managed to get his head stuck in the drain hole of a skip bin.

Cleaners at the site discovered the trapped and troubled tabby and quickly contacted RSPCA WA for help.

Despite several attempts to gently manoeuvre him free, the adventurous kitten remained firmly stuck.

RSPCA WA inspector Shaye and trainee inspector Sarita attended the scene, spending several hours patiently working to free the frightened feline.

With the help of olive oil, careful teamwork and a mild sedative, the kitten was safely released — a little shaken but physically unscathed.

Back at the RSPCA WA in Malaga he was affectionately christened “Oscar the Grouch”. A second kitten found at the site, Skippy, is also in the RSPCA’s care.

You are the heart and soul of RSPCA WA, making a life-changing difference every single day. Whether you’re walking dogs, comforting scared animals, cleaning kennels and cat condos, or giving your time wherever it’s needed, your impact reaches further than words can say.

This past year, 247 of you gave 24,747 hours of your time, but it’s more than just numbers. It’s every animal you’ve comforted and every moment of fear you’ve turned into hope.

Quite simply, we could not do what we do without you.

Thank you for showing up, for caring so deeply, and for changing lives every single day. The animals, our team and our entire community are endlessly grateful.

Thank you for being the difference at RSPCA WA. Happy National Volunteer Week! 🐾

Meet Orchid, the last baby bunny left. 🐰

Born here at RSPCA WA alongside her sisters, Orchid is now the only one left still waiting for a home… and we honestly can’t understand why. 💔

This sweet 9-week-old girl is the gentlest little ball of fluff you will ever meet. Tiny, fluffy, and always hopping around exploring, Orchid has completely won us over.

She loves nibbling on fresh greens and quietly snuggling up after a big day of bunny adventures. All she needs now is a loving home where she can continue to grow, feel safe, and be adored like she deserves.

As with all young rabbits, Orchid will need proper care, enrichment, and to return to our Malaga shelter for sterilisation when she’s around six months old to help ensure a happy and healthy future.

Bunnies make wonderful companions and can form incredibly close bonds with their people. Earning a bunny’s trust and love is truly rewarding. 🤍

Swipe to see little Orchid and her sisters when they were still teeny tiny. 🥹

Could Orchid be the perfect addition to your family?

If you can’t adopt, a like, comment, or share could help Orchid reach the people meant for her.

After everything, Skye is still the sweetest girl. 🥺

Meet Skye, a 7-year-old gentle giant who just wants someone to love her back. It breaks our hearts to see that she has had little to no interest so far.

When Skye first came into our care in November, she had lots of health implications. Puss-riddled eyes, infected ears, and a slow lope of a walk due to painful arthritis.

But despite all that she is still so full of love.

In foster care, Skye has completely blossomed. She’ll follow you from room to room, settle quietly at your feet while you work, and greet you with the sweetest excitement when you come home. And if you catch her in a playful moment, her little triangle ears perk up in the cutest way. ✨

She’s a gentle, affectionate girl who just wants a calm home and someone to love and care for her needs properly.

Skye does have ongoing medical needs and is on a special terms adoption, so she’s looking for a special person who is ready to commit to her care and give her the comfort she’s always deserved.

The reality is dogs like Skye are so often overlooked because they need a little extra, even though they have so much love to give.

She would love to be your one and only dog, but can happily live with cats, and may suit a home with children (pending a meet).

🐾 If you’ve been thinking about adopting, let Skye be who you choose. She’s ready to fill your life with cuddles, companionship, and unconditional love.

And, if you can't adopt, please leave a ❤️ and repost this to your friends and family. Let's use the power of social media to find this sweet girl the home she's been waiting so long for.

Two dogs left in conditions no animal should endure. 💔

A Girrawheen woman has been fined $4,000 after leaving her two dogs tethered and confined in full sun, without access to shade or water, on a 30°C day.

When RSPCA WA inspectors arrived, they found Mini and Nunu in distress - panting, dehydrated, and exposed to extreme heat.

Mini had wrapped her chain tether around the base of the Hills Hoist several times, leaving her only 40cm of movement. She had no access to shelter, nor could she reach two water containers in the vicinity, both of which were subsequently found to be empty. Mini was barking and panting and appeared to be heat distressed.

Nunu, who was pregnant, was confined inside a wire crate positioned on top of brick pavers in full sun. The crate contained an empty shallow glass saucer. She cowered and urinated when an inspector approached her.

Both dogs were suffering from dehydration and heat stress. Without intervention, their condition could have been far worse.

Nunu later gave birth to six puppies in RSPCA WA care. She and her pups have since found loving homes. Mini was also adopted but sadly had to be euthanised just a year after she was seized.
