RSPCA WA

RSPCA WA We are WA’s leading animal welfare charity organisation, preventing cruelty and promoting kindness.

When animals are let down by their owners, left helpless, traumatised and alone, they rely on RSPCA WA to step in and give them a second chance at life, love and happiness. Since 1892, RSPCA WA has worked tirelessly to prevent animal cruelty. We have rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed animals of many kinds and given them a second chance. We have educated the community and lobbied the Government to

promote animal welfare and prevent cruelty. Our Mission:
Lead the improvement of animal welfare in WA through prevention and intervention programs, advocacy, and education. We do this through:
🐾 Promoting and enforcing animal welfare legislation and driving legislative change
🐾 Educating and influencing the community
🐾 Achieving organisational excellence and delivering best practice animal care. At RSPCA WA we are dedicated to improving the treatment of animals because we believe it strengthens our society, enhances our lives and contributes to a better world. We have made great strides towards our vision, but there is still a long way to go. RSPCA WA would simply not exist without individuals and organisations who share our vision. We rely on the generosity of animal lovers to contribute around $9 million each year, the majority of what it costs to carry out our animal protection work. In order to overcome the challenges of increasing demand, rising costs and a vast geographical service area, it is critical that RSPCA WA continue to grow its supporter base. Through personal donations and gifts, and corporate fundraising initiatives, as well as a calendar of events, we will work to connect with people who want to protect and save Western Australia’s most vulnerable animals.

Today, a dog owner was found guilty of attempting to insert drugs in her pet's a**s.

For nearly 2 years, Busta the Dachshund had been waiting for an outcome. Today, in his new home with a new owner, he finally received some justice.

A 44-year-old Girrawheen woman has been fined $1,750 and ordered to pay $20,238 in costs for trying to insert a bag of methylamphetamine into her miniature Dachshund’s a**s.

In February 2024, WA Police stopped the offender’s vehicle after officers observed it being driven rapidly out of a shopping centre carpark.

Joondalup Magistrates Court heard the offender was seen trying to insert the small package into the dog’s a**s after being told she and her car would be searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1981.

The package, containing approximately 2 grams of methylamphetamine, was recovered.

WA police subsequently made a cruelty report to us and Busta was seized by inspectors.

The last few days for Sage have been incredible. First, she was adopted, and second, she received justice for the abuse she went through earlier this year. Warning, strong language and graphic description below. 👇

A 24-year-old Yangebup man was fined $5,000 and prohibited from owning an animal for three years for maliciously beating his partner’s 5-month-old puppy. He was also ordered to pay a total of $2,477.77 in costs and reimbursements.

Fremantle Magistrates Court heard RSPCA WA received a recording in May this year, in which a puppy can be heard being beaten.

In the recording, the offender can be heard shouting and swearing at Sage for chewing something.

He yelled at Sage, “f*ck off, f*ck" and “you f*cking bitch, you are”, “I’m going to f*cking…” following which Sage can be heard repetitively and loudly yelping and crying. The offender further yelled, “I don’t give a f*ck, c*nt. Stop chewing s**t up, you c*nt” and can be heard hitting Sage twice which made her yelp loudly.

More abusive shouting followed with Sage repetitively and loudly yelping and crying; a further five loud smacking noises can be heard and, on each blow, Sage repetitively and loudly yelping and crying out.

Sage has fully recovered and is in a loving new home where she's cared for and adored.

Cruelty to an animal can never be excused. It doesn’t matter how frustrated you are, to treat an animal the way Sage was treated is an offence and will be dealt with accordingly. There is zero community tolerance for this kind of behaviour, and the law reflects that which has been shown by Monday's outcome.

BOE GOT ADOPTED! 🥳🙌

Perth, you've done it again. You heard our call and answered with bells - we're so happy Boe got the attention he deserved and finally found a home where he will be loved and cherised. 💞

As you can see, he is over the MOON after meeting his new family. We can't wait to hear updates as he settles in and lands on all four paws in his new home.

Congratulations, Boe. We're all going to miss you so much! 💙🐶💚

EDIT: Boe's new adopters have made a FB page for Boe! If you want to keep up to date with Boe, check out their page here: https://www.facebook.com/boetherescue

Part 2 of 2 – FEE-FREE DOG! Meet Poppy and help us find her a home 💙👇

Wow — the support for Boe’s post yesterday was incredible! We’re so grateful to everyone who liked, shared, and commented. Boe is currently on hold with a potential adopter, and we’ll share an update tomorrow once we know more. 🤞

We did want to clear up one common question — Boe and Poppy aren’t bonded or related. They’re simply two lovely dogs who’ve both had long stays with us, and whose adoption fees are currently waived to help them find homes faster.

Now, let’s keep that momentum going and shine the spotlight on Poppy!

Poppy has been in our care since July, which means nearly six months without a home to call her own. She’s a big-hearted girl who can live with full-time workers and older kids (she can be a bit of a boofhead at times!). We think she’ll thrive best as the only dog in the household.

Her adoption is FEE-FREE, but don’t worry — all our usual adoption checks still apply to ensure the best match.

You can learn more about Poppy, her compatibility, and more via the 🔗 in the comments. 👇

If you think you could give Poppy the loving home she’s been waiting for, come meet her today! 💙

Before adoption, you'll need to have a quick chat with our behavioural team — our friendly adoptions staff will guide you through the process.

UPDATE: Boe has been adopted! 💞

📢 FEE-FREE DOG — Boe’s story is one you won’t want to scroll past. 👇🐶

Friends, we need your help. We have two dogs available with no adoption fee. Instead of promoting them together, we’re sharing their stories separately to give each the best chance — starting today with Boe.

Boe’s been with us since April, and despite his patience, he’s had little interest — so we’ve waived his adoption fee to help him finally find his home. (All usual adoption checks still apply!)

You may remember Boe from an earlier post — he was rescued from a regional area covered in ticks and fleas, leaving him underweight, severely anaemic, and battling Ehrlichia canis, a serious tick-borne disease.

After months of veterinary and behavioural care, Boe made a full recovery — but his story’s still missing its happy ending. That’s where you come in.

Will you be the one to give Boe his chance? Please look past his kennel manners and big, boofy looks — underneath is a loving dog who just wants to play with his toys and nap by your side.

Learn more about Boe’s personality and compatibility via the 🔗 in the comments. If you can’t adopt, please share his story to help him find the home he deserves.

Thank you for reading his story. Keep an eye for Part 2 tomorrow, featuring our other fee-free dog. 🐶💞

We have a large number of bonded animals up for adoption right now. We're hoping, using the Power of Friendship, their faces are shared far and wide to someone who hopefully can give them the one thing they're missing - a home of their own!

Click each picture to see their adoption profiles. And, of course, don't forget to tag your bestie. 👯‍♀️ 👯‍♂️

What a beautiful transformation for Morley and Waldo! 🐶🐶

In March, our inspectors seized two dogs in Broome who were emaciated. Their names are Morley (a Great Dane) and Waldo (a Pomeranian).

Their condition was shocking. At the property, our inspectors saw six-year-old Morley and nine-year-old Waldo in the back yard. The outline of Morley’s ribs, spine and pelvic bones were visible and prominent while Waldo appeared underweight with his abdomen tucked and a narrow waist. 💔

The offender had earlier come to the attention of the RSPCA, and he had been directed to provide proper and sufficient food for Morley and take her to his local vet clinic once a week for four weeks so updates could be provided on her body condition. He failed to follow either direction and was convicted under section 47(3) of the Animal Welfare Act 2002 as a result last Friday.

We're so happy that they have received some justice for their neglect. The two have gained so much weight since coming into care and being placed in their respective foster homes where they continue to improve.

If you care deeply about the welfare of greyhounds used in WA racing and want to make your voice heard, please make a submission before 17 November 2025.

Submissions are one of the primary sources of information for the parliamentary committee when they hold inquiries.

Anybody in WA can make a submission to an inquiry – including individuals, private organisations and government agencies. When you make a submission you are giving evidence to the committee.

This inquiry arises from a petition containing 26,138 signatures, demonstrating ongoing community concern about animal welfare and the greyhound racing industry.

We were so glad to get some justice for Charlie last Friday. It's so hard to comprehend anyone being so malicious to a defenceless, obviously terrified animal. 💔

WARNING: distressing content ahead.

A 47-year-old Balga woman has been convicted of animal cruelty after CCTV captured her kicking, dragging and tormenting a nine-month-old female Shar-Pei cross for approximately 10 minutes.

In the video, the offender can be seen in the driveway of her home, repeatedly yelling loud and aggressive profanities at Charlie, to get in the back seat of a car. When Charlie does enter the car, it is after she has defecated and urinated in fear, and the offender can be seen and heard further abusing Charlie and dragging her out forcibly by the front legs as Charlie whines in pain.

In sentencing, Magistrate Joe Randazzo said, “The manner in which you behaved was appalling. You called that dog an idiot. The only idiot was you on that day, the way you found yourself treating that dog.”

The offender was fined $7,500, banned from owning an animal for five years, and ordered to pay $1,756 in care and legal costs. The offender surrendered Charlie who recovered in the RSPCA’s care and has since been adopted, with her new owner describing her as “a princess”.
