Our services include a GP vet service at our clinic in Ocean Grove, Wellness consultant (ie annual health check, vaccination, preventative health plans and nutrition), behaviour and training, end of pet life support and compassionate home euthanasia, and professional support through times of transition and crisis. jects in the Bellarine and surrounding regions. We are excited to be offering a leading edge in-home pet care and professional veterinary health management service. Our passion is pets and people. We advocate for the vital role pets play in our health and wellbeing, particularly for senior citizens. We have recently launched Cherished Pets Foundation, a registered charity that will develop and deliver community based pet care projects. CPCVC supports the development and implementation of the programs of CPF. Our inaugural project to be officially launched April 2015 provides in-home pet care support for elderly and disabled pet owners living on the Bellarine. Our activities and vision at Cherished Pets is leading edge in the world of pet care. To our knowledge this is the first of its kind community pet care project being developed with a veterinary focus on the wellness and welfare of pets while advocating for the role pets play in human health and wellbeing. Arthritis isn’t just something humans experience; dogs and cats can feel it too 🐕🐈

As pets get older, it’s quite common for joints to become inflamed, which can make movement uncomfortable or even painful.

You might notice small changes like:
• Slowing down or sleeping more
• Reluctance to jump, run, or climb
• Licking at joints
• Stiffness, especially after resting
• In cats, this might look like avoiding high places or changes in grooming

These signs can be easy to miss at first, especially in cats, but they’re often your pet’s way of telling you something isn’t quite right 🦴

Regular check-ups can help identify arthritis early and support your pet in staying as comfortable and mobile as possible.

Our greatest wish is to keep them by our side for as long as possible 💛 The Human-Animal Bond deepens with time, and those senior years are our chance to give back to our cherished pets.

Healthy Ageing Week is a gentle reminder that our pets can live longer, more comfortable lives with the right support as they grow older 🐕

One of the things we are best known for at Cherished Pets Vet Clinic is our care and support of older pets so that they can live longer and healthier quality lives. With access to disease monitoring, management and good nutrition and dental care, pets are living longer.
Such as Dr Lissi's cat Jaycee pictured here. Jaycee is now almost 21 years old. She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism three years ago and is still going strong.

As pets age, you might start to notice small changes like:
• Greying around the face
• Sleeping more than usual
• Changes in appetite
• Slowing down during play
• Becoming more anxious or seeking extra reassurance

Every pet ages differently, and these changes can be subtle at first.
Regular check-ups and early attention to changes can make a meaningful difference in how they feel day to day 🐾

We recommend six monthly vet checks and at a minimum annually, for all pets over the age of 10 (younger for giant breed dogs). It's amazing how early detection can extend quality of life.
