💙🐾 Happy 2nd Birthday to my beautiful Duke Hannelly ! 🐾💙
Where do I even begin with this incredibly special boy?
From the moment we met, Duke chose me—and I will forever be grateful that he did. I have worked with and loved so many dogs throughout my life, but I have never met a boy quite like him.
Duke is the most loving, gentle and caring soul, with a heart of pure gold. He seems to understand exactly how I’m feeling and is always there with a cuddle, a paw or that beautiful face looking up at me. There is something so incredibly wise and special about him—I swear this boy of mine has been here before. 🥹
It has also only taken two whole years for him to finally allow me to sing Taylor Swift songs to him! Clearly, he has accepted that being in his Birthday Boy Era comes with certain responsibilities. 😂🎶✨
A heartfelt thank you to Kayla at Royalborda for trusting me with such a beautiful boy. He has brought more love and happiness into my life than I could ever put into words. I feel so incredibly lucky that he chose me to be his person. 💙
Duke has certainly celebrated turning two in style!
🍗 BBQ chicken for breakfast
🐾 A birthday walk
🥰 A visit with his mates Ollie and Teddy
🌿 A sniff-space adventure with the whole family
🥩 Rib-eye steak for dinner
🥕 And carrot cake for dessert!
A huge thank you to Crazy4Collies for creating Duke’s gorgeous custom “In My Birthday Boy Era” bandana. It was absolutely perfect for our very special birthday boy! ✨
Happy second birthday, my precious Duke. You are my comfort, my beautiful old soul and my other Shadow—never far from my side and always exactly where you belong. You are truly one of the greatest gifts life has ever given me.
I hope you always know just how deeply loved you are—not only today, but every single day.
I love you more than words could ever say, my beautiful boy. Here’s to many more adventures together. 💙🐾🎂

😎🐾 Cool, calm and absolutely nailing it! 🐾😎
Ollie and Teddy have officially decided that looking this good should be rewarded with extra treats! 😂
Behind the sunglasses are two gorgeous boys who have been working hard on:
🐾 Staying calm around people, dogs and bicycles
🐾 Checking in with their handlers
🐾 Choosing to watch rather than react
🐾 Building confidence during social walks
🐾 Improving their focus and self-control
🐾 Settling calmly together
It’s about those little moments when a dog pauses, makes a calmer choice and looks to their person for guidance.
Ollie and Teddy are learning that the world doesn’t need to feel overwhelming—and they can face it together with confidence, trust and plenty of style! 😎🩵
Keep up the amazing work, boys. You’re looking pawsitively fabulous!

🐾 What does a best friend look like in the dog world? 🐾
It can look like two very wet, very happy dogs sitting side by side after another adventure together! 😂💦
Archie and Duke are more than playmates—they are genuinely best friends. 💙
True canine friendship isn’t simply about dogs playing constantly. It can look like:
🐾 Choosing to seek each other out
🐾 Relaxed bodies, soft eyes and happy expressions
🐾 Taking turns and adjusting their play for each other
🐾 Pausing and respecting when one dog needs a break
🐾 Checking in with one another
🐾 Feeling safe enough to rest and simply share the same space
🐾 Becoming excited when they reunite
🐾 Trusting each other—even during energetic or unpredictable moments
The strongest friendships often include a beautiful balance of excitement and calm. Best friends can run, wrestle and explore together—but they can also sit quietly beside one another without needing to interact constantly.
Not every dog needs lots of doggy friends. For many dogs, one carefully chosen, compatible friend is far more valuable than being expected to socialise with every dog they meet.
Archie and Duke understand each other. They trust each other, respect each other and genuinely choose to be together.
They are definitely the real deal—two best mates who make every adventure better simply by sharing it. 🥹🐾💙

Two dogs. Two handlers. One big goal—the Public Access Test! 🐾🌟
Today, Buddha and Sunny headed to Petbarn with their handlers for a real-world PAT preparation session—and the store provided plenty of distractions!
They worked on:
🐾 Retrieving items for their handlers
🐾 Identifying and retrieving the correct item from several choices
🐾 Walking calmly and confidently across different surfaces
🐾 Maintaining a stay while their handlers moved away
🐾 Finding a designated support person
🐾 Refusing food from the floor
🐾 Ignoring other dogs and animals
🐾 Remaining focused around toys, treats, food, people and exciting smells
The Public Access Test isn’t simply about performing behaviours in a quiet training environment. Assistance dogs must be able to work safely, calmly and reliably in the real world—even when everything around them is competing for their attention.
Buddha and Sunny both worked incredibly hard, but just as importantly, so did their handlers. Every successful retrieve, calm pass and focused check-in reflected the trust, communication and teamwork they have been building together. 💙
They aren’t expected to be perfect during preparation. Every session helps identify what is becoming reliable and what still needs more practice before test day.
Petbarn may have looked like a shop to everyone else…
But for Buddha and Sunny, it was today’s classroom! 🎓🐾
Please give these two hardworking teams some encouragement as they continue preparing for their PAT! 👏🌟

Kmart certainly delivered some unusual distractions for Nala’s training session today! 🛒🐾
She worked around busy aisles, people, trolleys, noises, toys and plenty of interesting items—but the highlight had to be the toy dog going to the toilet, complete with sound effects. 😂🐕🚽
That one was definitely right up there among the strangest distractions we’ve encountered!
Rather than expecting Nala to ignore something so unusual immediately, we gave her time to observe it, process what was happening and check back in with her handler. Once she realised the noisy little dog wasn’t a threat—or a potential new friend—she was able to continue working calmly. 🌟
Real-world assistance-dog training means preparing for the unexpected… and apparently, the unexpected sometimes comes from the toy aisle at Kmart! 😂
Fantastic work from Nala and her handler today. 💙🐾

✨ WE’RE FINALISTS! ✨
I’m incredibly proud to announce that Chasing Perfection Dog Training has been named a finalist in the Australian Small Business Champion Awards, selected from more than 3,500 entries across Australia! 🥹🏆🐾
What began in 2015, inspired by my beautiful boy Chase, has grown into something more meaningful than I ever imagined.
Every dog and handler I have worked with, every breakthrough we have celebrated, every article I have written and every person who has supported my small business has helped bring Chasing Perfection to this moment.
To be recognised nationally in the Pet Training Services category is an incredible honour—and honestly, I’m still trying to take it all in! 🥹
Thank you to my wonderful clients, followers, family and friends for believing in me and supporting my commitment to positive-reinforcement, science-based dog training.
From one enormous dream to becoming a national finalist… we did it! 💙🐾🏆

🐾 Best friends, big feelings and one very soggy training adventure! 🌧️😂
Archie met up with his best buddy Duke today—and also spent some time with little Pip Squeak! 🩵🩷
Archie was incredibly excited to see Duke, but today wasn’t about stopping that happiness. It was about helping him manage his excitement and learning that he could greet his friend calmly.
We practised slowing down, checking in with his handler and waiting for a calmer body before moving closer. Calm introductions help dogs make better choices and prevent excitement from becoming overwhelming—especially when their best friend is waiting! 🧠🐾
Our adventure also included passing dogs barking behind fences, navigating plenty of distractions and getting caught in the pouring rain. 🌧️
Did that stop Archie, Duke and Pip from having fun?
Absolutely not! 😂
Archie worked hard, enjoyed time with his friends and gained valuable real-world experience. Training doesn’t need perfect weather or a distraction-free environment—sometimes the wettest, messiest adventures create the best learning opportunities.
Fantastic work, Archie! 🌟

I’m incredibly proud to share that another one of my articles has been published in APDT Australia’s C.L.I.C.K. magazine! 🥹📰🐾
This article focuses on something at the very heart of Chasing Perfection Dog Training: positive-reinforcement, science-based dog training.
Good training isn’t about frightening, hurting or intimidating a dog into compliance. It’s about understanding behaviour, recognising what the dog is communicating and using evidence-based methods to help them learn successfully.
Positive reinforcement builds:
🐾 Trust between dogs and their people
🐾 Confidence and emotional safety
🐾 Clear communication
🐾 A genuine desire to participate
🐾 Skills that can be used in real life
With my teaching background and as a professional dog trainer I’m passionate about making learning safe, enjoyable and achievable—whether the learner has two legs or four!
Seeing my work published alongside other professionals in the dog-training industry is such an exciting honour. Thank you to APDT Australia and C.L.I.C.K. magazine for giving me another opportunity to share what I’m so passionate about. 💙
Kindness and science aren’t extras in dog training—they’re the foundation.

Torrential rain meant changing our plans this morning, but it certainly didn’t mean cancelling Nala’s training! 🌧️🐾
Nala and her handler stayed undercover at the basketball court and revisited several important skills they hadn’t practised for a while:
🐾 Going around an object before moving onto her mat
🐾 Retrieving different items
🐾 Recall
🐾 Stay
🐾 Balance and rear-end awareness
In this video, Nala combines several cues beautifully—moving around the object, finding her mat and then retrieving an item for her handler. She also worked on balancing exercises to strengthen her coordination, body awareness and control of those back feet.
Training doesn’t always go according to plan. Sometimes the best sessions come from adapting to the environment, revisiting foundations and turning a rainy morning into a valuable learning opportunity.
Fantastic teamwork from Nala and her handler today! 🌟
