Today we celebrate International Women’s Day, and I want to take a moment to recognise some truly incredible women in the dog training and animal care industry here on the Central Coast.

This industry can be challenging, emotional, and incredibly rewarding, and I feel very lucky to work alongside women who are passionate about improving the lives of animals and the people who love them.

A special shout out to some amazing women doing wonderful work in our community:

Gail from Woofs and Wags – thank you for the care and dedication you bring to every dog and family you support.

Frankie from Dog Fit – your energy, knowledge and commitment to helping dogs move, train and thrive is inspiring.

Penny from Ocean Paws – the work you do helping dogs build confidence and skills is truly fantastic.

I also want to recognise the incredible women working in the veterinary field who support our pets every day. The teams at Erina Heights Vet Hospital & Beach & Bay Vet, are filled with hardworking, compassionate women who care deeply for the health and wellbeing of animals in our community and it has been a pleasure working alongside you all!

From trainers, to vets and nurses, to groomers, rescue workers and behaviorists — the work women do in the animal care industry makes a real difference every single day.

Thank you for everything you do.

Happy International Women’s Day.

“Muzzles Don’t Make Dogs Dangerous — Judgment Does."

Thank you to The Muzzle Movement for spreading this powerful message ❤

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EVX4KBPBJ/

When I first put a muzzle on Tolly, the hardest part wasn’t the muzzle. Far from it... the muzzle meant walks, freedom, safety. 🫶

What hurt was the judgement. The looks. The whispers that turned a kind, complex dog into something he never was: dangerous.

Of course, during my time in rescue I knew about muzzle stigma, but this was the first time I felt that stigma with my own dog.

The muzzle never made him dangerous. Judgement did.

That’s why The Muzzle Movement exists... (Tolly's legacy! 🌻) to challenge stigma, to protect dogs like him, and to remind guardians everywhere that choosing safety is never something to be ashamed of. 🤍

✨ A little update from me ✨

As many of you already know, I’m terrible at keeping up with my socials 😅 Over the past few months I’ve been slowly stepping back from private training and group classes to focus more on behavioural consulting through Erina Heights Vet Hospital.

I do want to apologise if my communication has seemed a bit lacking recently — it’s been a busy time of change. For now, I’ll be putting my energy into creating some educational programs and won’t be taking on any new private clients until further notice.

🌟 What’s staying the same:

I’ll still be running our much-loved puppy preschool classes 🐾

I’m always happy to chat via email if you need support or advice

📱 Please note: my business phone was lost, so email will now be my main form of communication. Apologies again if you’ve tried contacting me through the old number!

Thank you all for your patience and ongoing support 💛

Over the past few months, we’ve had the absolute joy of watching so many clever pups (and their amazing humans!) grow, learn, and graduate from our Puppy Preschool classes!

From their very first sit to mastering focus and play, each of these furry legends has worked so hard to become the best companion they can be – and we couldn’t be prouder.

A big thank you to all the families who trusted us to be part of their training journey. Your dedication, patience, and love make all the difference.

🐶Dogs Day Out 2025🐶

I had the pleasure of giving an educational talk at this year’s Annual Dogs Day Out with the Central Coast Council, and what an amazing event it was! 🎤🐾

It was fantastic to see so many passionate animal lovers come together to celebrate responsible pet ownership, learn more about their furry friends, and connect with the community. From discussing how to choose the right dog to understanding their unique needs, I loved sharing knowledge and helping people strengthen their bond with their pets.

A big thank you to everyone who attended, asked questions, and showed so much love for their dogs. And, of course, a huge shoutout to Central Coast Council for putting on such a well-organised and fun-filled day!

Did you come along? Let me know your
favourite part of the day in the comments!

This is such a great reminder from It’s so easy to focus on what goes wrong and forget to acknowledge all the things our dogs do right. Noticing and rewarding the good moments builds trust, strengthens training, and helps our dogs understand what we do want from them. Let’s celebrate the little wins—because they add up to big successes! 🐾💚

What did you notice first? The one thing that was wrong? Or the hundreds of other things that were right?

It's human nature to notice the negative. To notice errors, no matter how trivial. To notice when something isn't done, but rarely acknowledge when it is. To complain about bad service but let good service pass unremarked.

And we do it with our dogs too. We take the good stuff for granted (or perhaps we don't even consciously see it?) but complain when they do one 'wrong' thing. Every single one of these green ticks represents a 'rewardable' moment...but how many actually get rewarded? But the one instance of 'bad' behaviour....you can bet your bottom dollar we notice that!

Do you see your dog's good behaviour? Do you reward it? Because if you don't you might start seeing fewer ticks and more crosses....
