We’ve got lots of reasons dogs come to daycare.

Some hyper bunnies need to learn to chill around dogs, others need to learn to have fun around them.

Not all daycares are equal. Barefoot Paws is a learning center for dogs.

There’s only two ways you can train a dog:

Inducement Vs Compulsion

Inducement is where you get enthusiasm and effort. Inducement allows your dog to take over and thrice in the behaviour.

Compulsion is where you get pinpoint ex*****on. Compulsion minimises mistakes and allows your dog to experience less psychological pressure.

Most dogs prefer one over the other.

There are super boisterous dogs who are very handler sensitive and don’t want to push into a lure too hard, or shape their way to a mistake. Those dogs benefit from Compulsion.

Often these dogs - like me - don’t do well with inferences. They want to be shown the what, where and how.

Bonnie and Bowie are like that in fact Bowie shows you a nice transition from not knowing at all, to taking over himself.

Now, in the end, if you want max enthusiasm and effort and ex*****on…you must combine both.

My preference: Teach them to want it first.

Darcy wasn’t happy with me today…

Everything was going great!

We had a pack of Aussie Shepherds m, Silly Syd, Silly Goose and Dashing Darcy, come in to beauty the place up some, always a bonus!

PS: You know they’re not even Aussie dogs?!

The Alfredo came in to trace us with his enthusiastic loving energy. Gotta wear a full body suit for this guy! He knows no boundaries when it comes to licks 🤪

The Cavalier duo Kingston and Maple started their LEARNERY program today. Boy are they a pair of cool cats!

People should stop buying oodles and buy Cavaliers instead! Not only are they gorgeous, they have tons of enthusiasm for learning 😇🤓

Anyway, so everything’s awesome, Darcies even returning the ball…pretty sure that’s a first for us!

But then…Stu decides that we need to actually film chill time! Not happy Jan!!! What a stink eye!!!!

If you’re not doing this one thing with your dog…Theyre going to blow up!

I always tell my clients:

I can slam Connect 4 on the table and make my kids play. but they ain’t having fun. They’re playing to avoid a busting.

That is what play is to many companion dogs. They’re given a tug toy and get it ripped out of their mouths. Then the owner has a flap when the dog doesn’t bring the toy back straight away.

Learn how to play the game. It’s about setting the playing field up so that your playmate gets to explore bringing more heat to the kitchen.

If theyre growling, you’ve built Tug. Remember it’s called “tug of war”. Not “rip it out”.

You’ll see Opie Dokey get a work out in this video and I’ll show you how I modulate his enthusiasm.

Bonnie BonBon? She loves a good slap around.

Pressure on the body, a firm press or hold around the ribs helps. When those teeth start grabbing on my poor fingers that little bit too hard, I know that’s my cue to put in the brakes.

Others are actually turned off by physical games with their people.

Preya Freya likes to solve puzzles rather than break stuff with me. So we give her a brain game, a trick like pray. Sweet!! Shes gunning it!

Krazy Kairos, he’s got no problem getting amongst it if your a dog. But…he’s actually quite concerned when it comes to people…I hear his mum chocking on lunch reading this 😆😆😆

I set Courage challenges. Developing him from Cowardly Lion to Aslan the warrior lord! But how do I know how much is too much? When those snappers start hitting my hands. Then we are dissipating his concern and building his enthusiasm back to where we want it.
