Eyewatch - Kingston Police Service Area

Cheltenham uniform officers have charged two people and reunited an allegedly stolen turtle with its owners as part of a slow and steady investigation into a theft at an aquarium in Mentone earlier last month.

Police executed a search warrant at a residence on Dumfries Street yesterday morning, seizing the Juvenile Eastern Long-Necked turtle from inside the property.

It will be alleged the turtle, which officers have named Timmy, was stolen from an aquarium on Nepean Highway on the 11th of April 2026.

A 33-year-old Male and 36-year-old Female were arrested and have been charged with Shop Steal and Unlawfully Taking Wildlife.

The pair were bailed to appear before Moorabbin Magistrates Court on the 24th of August 2026.

Thankfully Timmy, although a bit shell-shocked, was unharmed.
